To me, this reads as the younger siblig being scared to face what’s to come and knowing that people are gonna give the older sibling shit for leaving them behind but knowing they need to go for their own good and wanting what’s best for them, so they’re comforting them with the fact that they know why they’re leaving. And as scared as they are to see them go, they want them to be safe. While the older sibling hates having to leave but knows that it’s the only way.

I can relate to this... three years ago my older brother moved away for university and finally escaped the horrible household we grew up in but that meant leaving me behind... he moved away a week before I started high school and I'm still stuck here...
