Adobe Premiere Pro - Link Media - FILE IMPORT FAILURE - The Importer Reported a GENERIC ERROR - How to FIX the Importer Reported a GENERIC ERROR in Premiere Pro 2022. Follow along if you are unable to LINK MEDIA from an old project in Premiere Pro. You will need to delete the cache files in Premiere Pro first. If that doesn't work, which was the case for me, you will have to delete the cache files directly on the computer. I'll show you how to do that. And Bingo! The files should relink media without any further error messages. Done! Problem Solved.

That is a good tutorial, Katia. One piece of advice is that you do not have to dig into your Library to clean all the cache anymore. Choose File > Close All Projects. Then, choose Preferences > Media Cache, and in the dialog box, choose the second option to clean all the cache. This cleans the current cache, as well as the unused cache. This performs the same task as deleting your library folders and is easier and clearer. You can try it, then use the idea for a new video. Go for it! 😃

FINALLY!! a tutorial that actually fixes this problem! I can't believe something this simple resolved something that's been plaguing me forever. Thank you so much!

For those who read this comment and still had issues, I had to do it a few times to get all of my hundreds of files to work properly, so try that if it doesn't fully work!

Thanks for this! I had a little trouble locating the files on Windows but I just typed the link path in the explorer address bar and found them pretty easily after that. It worked thanks so much! The trauma of losing all your work that you spent all day on is traumatising to say the least!

OMFG, thank you so much! Worked for me. Getting so tired of having to search around for Adobe Error work arounds!

Thank you so much. This saved me a lot of time and aggravation. I was having to rename the files individually to restore them. Since I'm working with multiple timelines I just went to File - Link Media and it showed missing links for the entire project, and linking to one fixed the link for all the others.

Thank you, I followed these steps exactly and it has worked for me. I think it might be related to Dropbox indexing / sync somehow

Adobe Premiere Pro 2023 version and this still happens. I don't get why this is still a thing. Thanks for the very straight to the point video!

Hey! thanks for the tutorial but it didn't fix my problem. I'm trying to open one .aegraphic (already downloaded on my pc) made by my client on his pc. He's sharing it on Dropbox. When I open it or sync it, it says the same problem as you. I erased cache as you did, and also changed folder's name (it's another solution Adobe provides). Any idea? This Graphics were made in this plugin called Mister Horse.

So for me NONE of these things fixed it.

What fixed it was deleting all the PEK files that Adobe Creates for all the files in their file location folder and then re opening the project, it will re create those PEK files

Anyone has any insight on the impact that starting the project on a pc and then using the same drive on a Mac would have on what she has described?
