Hey Scotty, got a 97 Honda prelude last year for $300 it's still running fine after 250, 000 miles. I'd say it was a great purchase, more people should buy cheaper cars and work on it themselves

In 1991 I bought a 76 Corolla for $300.00
I drove the wheel off that thing and sold it with 467, 000 miles on it and it still ran like a top! Wish I still had it.

Got a 98 Toyota Tercel with 160, 000 Miles for $500 and all the maintenance records, and it came from an honest back house mechanic. Best car I've bought for under $1500. Never give up hope kids.

Bought a 1999 v6 ford mustang for 600 dollars couple of years back. Engine ran great and the previous owner put a dual exhaust and K&N air filter on it. The only problems it had were small scratches and dings on the right side of the car and the main reason it was so cheep was the alternator went out on it. Great reliable car and fun to drive when you can hear the exhaust pipes.

I would look for 90's Buicks. They are good cars and they were usually owned by older people who didn't drive them hard and usually did the maintenance regularly. I have owned several that I bought cheap from people in nice neighborhoods and they have all been good for over 200, 000 miles with no major problems.

I had a cousin that bought a 1989 Nissan 240SX coupe for $50 from an older couple who were the first owners. It smelled horrible and didn’t properly run, but hey a car for $50 bucks?! That’s insane!

I saw a $500 dollar car, drive for years, drive half way across country and then back. Just change the oil and wheels and an alternator change. Dude! some of these cars man. If you don't care about anything on it but the mechanics of it and how it runs. You can get a great deal. Just don't complain about the wear on the interior! LOL. That's actually easier to fix then the engine tho. I know someone who rebuilt a porsche 911 from junk and got junk seats with mold and dirt from the junkyard for 200 bucks, the whole set! A few hours with the extractor and checking the inside foam was ok, only the outside leather was a little "weathered in", boom, brand new seats! unbelievable!! I've seen old 80's corolla brought back to life with lavish interiors, custom made! Just because the car is old isn't the end of it! Just care most about the mechanics, make sure they are sound or you're able to fix it and it will last a long time! Don't drive like you in the indy 500! with a 160HP car! lol.
