$300,000 Flying Car Granted Certification by FAA

Alef Aeronautics, a California based start-up, has received a Special Airworthiness Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration. That means the company will be able to test out their Model A on the ground and in the skies. It’s considered a ‘low speed vehicle,’ driving fast enough to be street legal. If a driver wants more speed, the company assumes they’ll take the car into the air. Alef is taking pre-orders for the Model A, which is expected to sell for $300,000.

Imagine having the hassle of dealing with the DMV and the FAA at the same time. 😂

Other drivers won't let you merge into their lane, now imagine drivers not allowing you to land back on the road 😂

You will not be able to "fly" these vehicles, you will pay a fee to be a passenger while "autopilot" does it's thing. No way they'll allow people to fly unrestricted.

When I was a kid the thought of flying cars was exciting but now I think I'll stay on the ground thank you.

Considering the horrible driving reputation of people, I hope this only becomes available to people with actual flying experience.

EDIT: For those of you who says that it can just use autopilot, the FAA has restrictions regarding how close to the ground autopilot can be used for which is still much too high. On top of this, autopilot, with current technology, can only assist the person. Not act in place of a pilot. That said, you would still need to be certified as a pilot to be able to fly the car UNLESS they made exceptions.

This is a joke, it'll never go mainstream. I guarantee this is the last time you'll hear about this company before another comes along and does the same thing.

That means you won't only need a drivers license but a pilots license because it is actually illegal to operate an airbore capable vehicle in the US and elsewhere without a pilot license.

Even if they release flying cars, what's gonna stop them from crashing into each other while they're flying in the air?

Flying cars may soon be possible, but no way will they actually let people fly them on their own. It could lead to reckless flying that could lead to catastrophic incidents.

How to know a flying car is a scam.
1) You never see it fly.
2) You never see it fly.
3) You never see it fly.

How does it actually fly? Might be a good idea to explain that, no?

Flying cars in reality is the dumbest idea on Earth. However, flying cars in SciFi is the coolest thing I love seeing in movies.
