Bono Talks About Activism And Family

Bono is in Montreal to deliver the keynote address at a Montreal conference with world leaders to raise $13 billion to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, and the U2 front man also sat down for a rare interview with chief political correspondent Tom Clark.

In the interview, Clark asks Bono about his three passions — music, family and his political activism — and how they intersect.

“They are the same,” Bono agrees. “I’m kind of in a family of activists, to tell you the truth. I mean, I was coming to meet the prime minister, and he’s been saying, ‘I’m a feminist.’ So I call my daughter and say, ‘Can I say I’m a feminist?'”

“She actually said an amazing thing to me,” added Bono of daughter Jordan. “She said, ‘Gender equality doesn’t exist anywhere dad, not in Canada, not in America, not in Ireland, nowhere…’ That is true, and I realize that sexism, I suppose, is established over thousands of years. It’s going to take a lot to unseat it.”

Added Bono with a laugh: “Pain in the arse runs in our family.”

As Bono explained, it’s important that his family understands what it is he’s doing that keeps him away from home.

“It makes it better for our family because if I’m away, they know why I’m away,” noted Bono. “And by the way, when I’m at home, I really am at home. More than a lot of my friends in Ireland and Dublin where we live who have to leave early in the morning and come home late at night to earn a crust. When I’m home, I really at home, but it helps when I go away for everyone to understand and for everyone to buy into what we’re all doing as a family, not just me.”

To all the Bono haters: stop watching and leave then man alone. This guy is one of the greatest humans to have ever lived. People jump on the bandwagon and call him a fraud for reasons that aren't even true. He doesn't ask for money, he asks for voices, so that social equality and extreme poverty can be cured around the world. Bono is an incredibly powerful man, highly regarded as a humanitarian by all previous prime ministers, politicians and presidents that he has met with and had strong relationships with many. Bono co-founded The One Campaign and (RED) which aren't charities. They are funded by business such as Coca-cola and Apple to try and make sure that everyone on earth has equal opportunities to education, healthcare, jobs and peace.

I don't agree with everything Bono says but there is no doubt where his heart is. He is a great humanitarian and really quite intelligent in his analysis of problems. I just with he were an environmentalist and didn't push mining and drilling as the way to get Africa out of extreme poverty. His analysis just doesn't go far enough, doesn't change the dominant paradigm about endless economic "growth" as the cure for what ails the world. It isn't, just the opposite. Despite my problems with his short-sighted solutions, I love the man and what he stands for in terms of compassion for our fellow humans and I love the band's music. I just wish his compassion included the planet and all her creatures. In the end, humanity will die out because our greed leads us to rape the planet and destabilize our precious eco-system. In the short term, the disadvantaged people of the world will suffer greatly, but in the end, none of us will escape destruction of our planet.

I see that after 40 years in the business Bono still talks bullshit. I am a true Canadian, my family has been here for over 200 years and I am totally clear and understood when I say that everyone, not just Canadians, Americans, British, etc. are open to compassion and no 'human' without this will ever survive. I (we)always want the best for anyone, their safety, health and happiness are priority over anything, even when it comes to our own. I want to be clear that my compassion is that no one person or culture dominate anyone or society. We all live in this world together, however cultural diversity cannot be manage by religion. Most of the people in this world naturally have a common sense of perception of the world and the needs of all living in it, and with a teaching of hate and empowerment, this goes astray....
My advise to the world, not just the muslims and radical religious cults, is to send them all to a neutral ground where they can be screened and identified as civil minded people. Common sense rules everything, everywhere. No teacher or preacher should take that from you. Educate your mind and understand the simple fundamentals. Not a religious man wholeheartedly but simple testiments can be written for all to follow that are in the general interests of of people and environment on a global scale...
Imagine this;
1. no physical or verbal violence
2. no trespassing
3.Age appropriation (sex and developement)
4.religions kept to individual belief and not imposed
5. no street preaching,
6.no hunger, food distribution
7.education for everyone
8.be recognized (chipped)
9. all weapons destroyed
10. no discrimination
11. punishment standards for everyone to understand. (rape, murder, etc.death penalty)

I still think he should've adopted a few black kids, it would've given him much more street cred.

Please quit using the term "extremist". It is a subjective and extremely EXPLOITABLE term - a LABEL - that anyone can use to work extreme human rights violations onto any persons they do not like or find bothersome. It is similar to how the label "heretic" was exploited by the Catholic church in France; to work extreme and life-destroying injustices, torture, torment, and violent murder against innocent persons during the Inquisitions. Now, the contrived label of "extremist" has been corruptly and unjustly used by those in Russia (with the Russian Orthodox Church using it as a diabolical slander tool) to push the government to ban and threaten further ban and extreme human rights violations against innocent Jehovah's Witnesses (my spiritual brothers and sisters) there.

It would be less exploitable to use (as the UN did, in 2016) the terms "VIOLENT extremist" and "VIOLENT extremism" - to describe those that kill their fellow man, in the name of their religion; AS OPPOSED TO those who are, as prophesied, exceptionally NON-VIOLENT, but HATED by many of this very ungodly world (for worshiping Jehovah on His own scriptural terms, obeying and upholding His own scriptural standards, and preaching and teaching scriptural truth to a world that largely doesn't want to hear it, see it, or obey it).

Thin Lizy is Ireland's real national treasure. U2 was okay until Bono started sticking his nose where it shouldn't belong and holding fund raisers for profit.
