500$ eBay Turbo Kit Unboxing

In this video I open a 500 dollar ebay T3/T4 turbo kit.

If you want to see this installed on our new project car please subscribe.

Our new project is a 1991 Toyota Tercel that is completely gutted and will weigh less than 1500 pounds when finished.

It has a 4-speed manual gearbox and a 1.5 liter 3e-e engine.

We just want to have a super light, boosted car that will catch people off guard at the strip and at the stop lights.

turbos need to have that bit of play because the oil pressure gets rid of it

you got more stuff then I did. like I didn't get flanges boost controller or external waste gate just an internal type . maybe car was the difference and I got mine 2 years ago . didn't drive the car much and the motor went due to bad timing I'll be running all ebay once I get a new head and try again .

Dude the play you're feeling I guess that by now you do know it's completely normal.
Looks very, very good by the way..!

That little bit of play is for oil to flow threw

FYI, a journal bearing turbo always has about 1/8 to 1/16 inch of shaft play to allow the oil into the journal

This is awesome! Keep going man, we are all excited! Love the goal of the car, cant wait to see a few vids in the future

A little side to side play is normal. Oil pressure takes care of that. In and out play should be zero though. If you wanna get a better idea of the quality of the IC shine a light down one end and look into the other. Basic rule is if you can hardly see it then it's at least decent. If it shines straight down then you might as well run a straight pipe.

i had some fun with a bolt on td05 16g snail from china, the internal wastegate was way too small so i had to make the hole bigger, other than that it worked fine, i ran 23 pounds on it for a long time on the street ... it did surprise me a little :)

the .63 means that the compressor wheel is a .63 which is a common wheel and the .50 ar is the turbo trim.

So the A/R ratio are basically an aspect ratio of the compressor (or turbine) housing cross sectional area to the radius of the turbo measured to that cross sectional surface. Its a measurement that helps describe the flow characteristics of the turbo. Your T3 has a 0.63 A/R turbine and a 0.50 A/R compressor. On a 1.5L engine, that turbo is way too big, so its not going to spool until ~3000 rpm and start making boost at ~3500 and maybe by 5000 rpm you will have full boost. For a 1.5L motor you need the T25 with a 0.48 A/R turbine I am rebuilding. I am installing it on a 1.8L miata, but I bought 2 turbos from an RB26DETT motor. Look for a 0.48 A/R 50 trim T3 on ebay...that is the only turbo your 1.5L will actually spool by 4000 rpm. ;)

I'm thinking about ordering the same kit for my 2.5 Subaru

You have to understand you get what you pay for. The high temperature, purified materials that go into brand name turbos are NOT going to be in the ebay cheap turbos.
The material cost for quality components would raise the turbo price.
Having said that there are things to do to make an ebay turbo work.
1. Don't go to extreme boost pressures. This will destroy an ebay turbo because of the materials used.
2. Fuel is your friend!! Use rich air-fuel ratios to control exhaust temperatures. For an ebay turbo, I would not run leaner than about 11:1 or less. Heat will take down the ebay turbo quickly. As mentioned above they are not going to use inconel or other high temperature tolerant materials due to cost. Running a bit too rich will not noticeably reduce power but will keep the turbo from grenading.

Any slight play in the turbine means trouble in the future. I suggest you get that tighten up good if not your looking at buying a new engine in the short term. Good Luck on that!
