Why do I LOVE Indycar Oval Racing?

Cars go neow around ovals. Seriously though, the racing is incredible and deserves more respect in my opinion.

The driver skill involved in oval racing is also highly overlooked. They need to manage tire wear, aero wash due to dirty air, and changing wind conditions that make a huge difference considering they're going into corners at 200+ mph. The drivers need to proactively be able to adjust their front and rear anti-roll bars, as well as the weight jacker, to tune the car to handle better under all the changing conditions. Sometimes they have to adjust these tools multiple times per lap (and laps are only 20-30 seconds long on some tracks like Iowa and Texas)!

For the drivers, oval racing in Open wheel series requires such a curious combination of patience and bravery. The drivers have to be so consistent on the same four corners for so long, while managing traffic around them and picking their spots to make an overtake.

I also personally love ovals. As a European it's something that differentiates indycar to other single seaters. Ovals are the reason I fell in love with indycar and im always looking forward to when they're on

As a nascar guy it’s great to see a European that actually likes oval racing and doesn’t think it’s just “boring racing with no skill and only turn left.” Nascar will always be my favorite racing but indycar oval racing is REALLY good. Especially the Indy 500, one of the greatest races every year

I watch a lot of oval racing and although I’m a big Nascar guy i think that indy oval races are really good, i generally dont watch them, mainly because it’s almost scary with close calls and crashes but i still find them entertaining, especially the short tracks, such as gateway and Bristol and i hope that i can watch some more indy-races this year, anyways, great video mate, greeting from Sweden:)

I like the tactical part about it. I always explaining it like advance chess

Also…close finishes. Look for any list of IndyCar’s closest finishes and they’re almost all on ovals. Sometimes they’re only separated by inches and that only very very rarely happens on road and street circuits.

I’m not really a huge fan of ovals on TV, until the final few laps. However, in-person where you can really experience the speed and can often see the entire circuit, ovals have some distinct advantages over road and street circuits.

Oval racing is something you either love or hate, it has lots of strategy compared to other tracks, and differs it from just being f1 but in America, I also like how IndyCar also races on lots of street circuits, more then F1, and the races are also very chaotic. Ex: music City Grand Prix Race from last year.

I've only started Indy ovals again. I was watching when Dan Wheldon and Justin Wilson died, and I swore I wasn't watching any more ovals besides the 500 until safety changes were made, and then Dixon almost got killed in the 500 too. Can't express how grateful I am for the safety innovations that have saved more than a few lives over the past few years.

Added benefit is going to some of the ovals in person (like Iowa or Gateway) is that you can see the entirety of the track from your seat, something you’d never get at a normal circuit

You’re the only Indy car Youtuber I know of so can you keep making vids on it

What I also like with the ovals are that each one is unique, unlike what most European racing fans believe. You have Indy, a super speedway going over 200mph. Then Texas, where they still hit ridiculous speeds and are battling traffic alot more on the shorter oval. Then WWT raceway with very shallow banks and different radius of corners for turn 1 and 2 compared with 3 and 4. Then you have Iowa Speedway which have quite shallow banks but are very wide and fast.

As an American I grew up a NASCAR fan so I am very biased to loving ovals. I see why some people find them boring but if you actually go to a race you'll think differently. I was at the Indy 500 once and there was a group of Germans sitting behind me. They said the race was more exciting than any F1 race they'd ever been to.

My home track is WWT raceway. I’ve been to every INDYCAR race that comes. Always puts on a great show. It was grosjeans first oval race and he had most overtakes of the night. He instantly won over a huge amount of fans here in STL.

I really like oval racing. First because of Cars lol, and the fact that it is not that long and it makes for more strategic planning for teams. Speaking of strategy, do a video about Indycar strategies

Danger has always been an attraction of motor racing, only now we're afraid to admit it. Right away you'll be accused of "wanting to see racers die, " but it's actually the opposite. You want to see them defy danger and come through it. Same as seeing a tightrope walker in the circus. If there is no danger in motor racing, you might as well watch a footrace, like a 100M sprint. Or a rowing race with an 8 man shell. These can be exciting too, though there is little danger, but the danger element has always added something extra to motor racing.

One other thing that makes ovals so entertaining in IndyCars, is that the IndyCar is basically a road racing European formula car, so seeing it on an oval you're seeing it out of its natural element, which makes it interesting. Same like seeing NASCAR on road courses, cars that are fundamentally designed for ovals out of their natural element. It puts drivers & teams on their mettle.

Indycar on an Oval is bat crazy. And that's why I love them.
I have immense respect for those that do it knowing what it can lead too.
It's not for the feint of heart. More risk really does mean more reward, look at Sato throughout the years on them.
Oh and then there is everything else to throw in there, it's not easy. People who think it's easy are silly people.

NASCAR is also hard, that's a whole other bowl of wax though.

When I first started watching INDYCAR I thought that it was a road Course only Schedule and then I started watching and there are a lot of ovals. And Now I wish the schedule was Half Ovals and half Road Courses.I’m so Excited for Texas, Indy, Iowa 1, Iowa 2, And Gateway. And I hope that they add more Ovals to the Schedule For 2023.
