Study Series: 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith

Marriage is to be between one man and one woman; neither is it lawful for any man to have more than one wife, nor for any woman to have more than one husband.

- Marriage is a union of two sinners, a man and a woman. Hence, there is a need to pray for our marriage.
- it is a lifelong covenant - Matt. 19:5-6
- It is monogamy (polygamy in some OT characters due to their hardness of hearts)
- it is a lifelong vow wherein God is a witness - Mal 2:14-16
- it was instituted before the fall - Gen. 2:20-24 - the presentation of the animals to him is for manly dominion & the need for suitable companion, not with beast (against beastiality).
- Gen 2:18 - a helper fit/suitable (NASB/ESV) for him - the same being, nature, & value but with distinct quality (not exactly like him), to assist and complete Adam.
- Adam has a superior authority & leadership (against feminism).
- God design us as a social being with like nature not with animals (some people who content living with pets)
- The woman's career is to support her husband.
- Feminism is a perversion of God's order in creation.
- "That the woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved. Adam lost a rib, and without any diminution to his strength or comeliness (for, doubtless, the flesh was closed without a scar); but in lieu thereof he had a help meet for him, which abundantly made up his loss; what God takes away from his people he will, one way or other, restore with advantage." - Matthew Henry
- the fact of the families' sinfulness should cause us to pray even more.
