Managing and mastering fear, stress and anxiety with former Astronaut Dr. Sandra Magnus and former Navy TOPGUN instructor Admiral Sandy Winnefeld.

We fear the unknown, change and of course danger. In this discussion, Dr. Sandra Magnus and Admiral Sandy Winnefeld hammer home how they mastered fear, stress and anxiety in lifelong careers with extreme danger, uncertainty and responsibility. Desensitization through extensive training and preparation has been the simple logic, however it requires a lot of hard work and discipline. If you’re willing to put in the work, Dr. Magnus and Admiral Winnefeld show how any person can conquer fear and anxiety.

Hank is one of those YouTubers that when he releases a video. You can't help but get a dash of excitement because you know it's going to be quality content.

Dr. Magnus' comments about the difference between theoretical knowledge and experiential knowledge reminded me of the first time I flew over a volcanic eruption back in 2014. I knew, on paper, that the lava I was looking at would have a temperature between 1000 - 1200C, but actually FEELING the heat coming up through the belly of the plane was something else entirely.

I think the fact that hank has managed to stay calm and collected even when inside of a tornado is truly amazing.

I am subscribed to maybe thousands of channels on Youtube, but Hank is the ONLY one that I have the notification bell activated for. One, for the content, and two, because he does not blow up my feed with constant uploads. It's just right.

The reason I was attracted to Hank’s chasing videos is the way he always kept his head in the face of a tornado where almost every other YouTube chaser surrenders to the dopamine rush, no matter how knowledgeable they may be. And he’s a genius with designing the music too.

Hank is seriously my idol. Ever since I was 9, I’ve had a serious interest in tornadoes. At the age of about 9 1/2, to my grandmother I predicted the Nashville tornado of March 3rd, 2020 the night before it happened. Ever since then, I’ve had an undying interest in meteorology. One day, at the age of 10, I found one of Hank’s videos and have been a die hard fan ever since. I remember every day when he was getting close to 1 million subscribers, I closely watched his sub count until he reached that milestone. I can’t wait to be in his position one day, storm chasing in my dream job. Happy trails, Hank. Keep on chasing.

What a wonderful interview - both in terms of Hank's questions and Dr Sandra's and Admiral Sandy's responses. Fear and anxiety can be overwhelming and it's always interesting to hear the perspectives of people able to put that aside, and who are masters of their fields. Thank you for sharing and posting!

Always interesting and presented brilliantly. You've helped stoke my own tornado nerdship in 2 of my kids as well with my 7 year old often asking to watch "The Tornado Guy"

Hank this is a GREAT interview. Among the very best discussions on leadership and risk management I’ve ever encountered. I found it quite emotionally moving but it’s hard to say why… I work in a very high risk industry and am also a pilot & occasional storm chaser so maybe I can somewhat relate to you all… Your knowledgeable questions, rapt attention and rapport were perfect. I’d wager that your guests considered this time very well spent and that is something you can be really proud of.

Hank, you just “led” me to watch a 47 minute podcast in it’s entirety. That has NEVER happened in my 55 years! QUALITY content, incredible guests, deft editing/ accompanying material, and the ultimate: Educating alligator snapping turtles on the fatal dangers of road crossings. You covered every aspect of successful creation!!! You made my week brother ~! Thanks from your windy sister state to the north~ !

I think fear plays a big part in storm chasing. Fear and panic can make things worse for you. Very interesting topic.

Hank is absolutely the man. And these two, Dr. Magnus and Admiral Winnefeld, also appear to be the type of exemplary human that deserves the title of "hero, " even though I would absolutely assume both would shy away from that designation. Incredible to listen to these three talk. I love it!

This is the just what I needed while preparing for finals, a video from Hank on dealing with fear stress and anxiety!

25:22 I told my youngest daughter, just last week, "I want you file this in your permanent memory. You learn more through failure than you do by success. When you fail, and you correct the failure, you will ALWAYS remember that as what NOT to do. And it will stick in your memory much longer than if you are just always doing everything right."

Favorite part of this vid, when the good Dr. Magnus is sharing her insight on leadership and silly Hank goes to the cutaway gag of himself talking the snapping turtle off the pavement. Hank, if you ever run for public office, I'm making myself available to serve on your campaign staff!
