I did this often when I was a kid. Swiss Arm Knives were my fist multitool and I have been carrying one of some size for almost 40 years. Take care of them and they will last a lifetime.

Swiss Army knives can absolutely be disassembled it's just not necessary for cleaning but you can totally take them apart and modify them.

I wash any multitool or folding knife with warm water and dish soap plus a brush. Then i blow compressed air on it. After, i pour oil, alot of them, all over the multitool and in it then again use the compressed air. Then wipe it with a clean cloth.

Use a hair dryer or any air source to dry.

My edc and travel tool for years was a German copy of the Spartan. When it left me, I replaced it with a Huntsman.
Spartan is easy in the pocket, Huntsman is really too thick, it is a bag carry or a walk in the woods pocket carry.

A 10 min soak in some(hot) soapy water before the initial rinse will help a lot.
