Mate, spot on. I've given the company a pass in the past thinking one thing can't satisfy everyone. But you're right, here in the States this thing costs a grand! Shouldn't compromise for that price. I was thinking about selling my mk 1 and a few other things to get this, but think I'll wait to see what happens in future updates for now.

No sample slicing was what turned me off of the Digitakt 1, that and mono samples. I don’t understand why they refuse to do slicing because the analog Rytm mk2 doesn’t have it either so it feels like it’s something their company is just straight up saying “nah” to.

If you are talking to Elektron, can you ask if they plan on making an Octatrack 2? 😋

Does it have granular possibilities as well? I can't find info on that :(

I refuse to buy anything from Electron because of their over-the-top greed... The Digitalt II should not be more than $600... End of story...

No slicing is just ridiculous and stupid. The SP404MK2 even has great slicing and costs half as much.

Zooming in on the source page is a pain, yeah. I’m hoping they let you do that in an update because it can’t be hard to do. It wouldn’t surprise me if the slice mode comes in time. I mean, how many years was “song mode” a never ever meme.

First off, I am big on the Elektron workflow so this was always going to be something I was going to add to my setup. However, having used it pretty extensively I can attest that there are a few obvious features that need to be added for this to be THE sampler. Global mix is a big one. So is manual sample slicing. I also ran into a few bugs.

I am certain they will add global mix and squash those bugs, but I am unsure about them adding manual slicing as the Octatrack handles that pretty well.

If you KNOW you want this as your sampler, you can buy now and jam with it while you wait for them to add those things, or you can wait for them to add them. It is up to you.

Expensive little box. Cant justify buying it still. Got E4, S3200, EPS16+. Maybe I am wrong

When you see the amount of new features that the first Digitakt received during it's life, it would really surprize me that Elektron wouldn't add manual slicing. Heck, more than a year ago we didn't have slicing at all. I'm excited to see where they're gonna push the potential of this unit and I can't wait to get my hands on one.

lack of polyphony and lack of manual-slicing are what keep me away form buying it

Nice video! Btw global mix/fx is missing on mk2, as a result loading mk1 projects that used global mix are now missing information and mess up levels/fx/comp.

I hate say this but after looking at polyend tracker plus, I’m more interested that than the digitakt 2🤷🏾‍♂️

You forgot to mention the excruciatingly painful sample uploading speed and the lack of overbridge. I sent mine back and went back to my OT. When the DT 1 came out there was very little else you could use that was so portable and so unique now times have changed and there are plenty of small for sampler options out there. You could get two Roland SP404 mk2's for the price of this (if that's your thing). I persoanlly went back to my Octatrack, after not getting on with the DT2, Elektron need to release a new flagship Sampler IMHO.

However, great update for the OG DT owners.

Very nice review. I recently got a used Pioneer SP16 as my main unit for drums and sampling, and I have been loving it so far.
Your take on the Digitakt however has awakened a little bit of gas, I must admit.
I'll hold of for a while and see what Elektron still has in store in the near future regarding the firmware.

Hi everybody. i own a MPC one, would you recommend a digi for experimental music and sound design? It's easier to make experimental music with digi? or continue with mpc? I would like to know if digi can actually be useful.

I was determined to buy the Polyend Tracker+ but now that I see your review I'm not sure. Which one would you choose for a dawless setup?

Thanks for your thoughts on it. I’ve got a question through - how are you using TwistedWave and Renoise to make slices work with the DT2? Are you adding in slice markers and the DT2 can read those from the file for playback? Are you slicing and then re-positioning the slices to fit evenly within a unit of equally spaced samples so that grid mode works? I’m curious

I commented on your previous video, mentioning that I've had my DT2 sitting unopened, precisely for the reasons you mentioned at the end. Although the other updates make it worth the upgrade on their own, this review might be the nudge I needed to crack it open (if I remain optimistic about future updates).
