In this video, I share my experience with the Elektron Digitakt II. I also explain a few things that could be improved and why I would recommend this sampler/drum machine over a few of my favorites. Yes, I am still in love with the Roland SP-404 MK II, MPC, and the EP-133 KO 2. Hope you enjoy it.

Purpose: I wanted to make this video for anyone that may be considering a new sampler or may want to explore music creation.

In some countries products with batteries have some strict and complicated regulations, altho there is enough space inside the box to add batteries (even speakers)
or make it thinner, in order to get a full portable machine. Even as a module like with the Model: Series. But Elektron stills Elektron.

Why not just record the output of the digi into a daw or phone for the car test

More useful for a sampler would be zero crossing detection for avoiding audio pops. Digitakt 1 (and Octatrack) do it, Digitakt 2 not yet (because of harder to implement for stereo?!)

One thing that makes Elektron boxes so great is their look and feel. It really feels like a machine. Not a piece of plastic. It looks like it's made to do some serious damage. It's made for touring. It's made to last. They know artists want something that inspires them visually and physically. When you use those keys it's so satisfying. It makes you want to make music.

With Overbridge software coming soon, you’ll be able to multitrack all stereo tracks into Ableton with ZERO sample latency. 100% in sync with your daw. Can’t say that for any other drum machine.
Also I think the ability to adjust Slice sample start positions will come soon too. It’s already on Digitakt 1.
Over 35 years, I’ve owned the Sp12, sp404mk2, and mpc 60/1000/2500/Ren, TR-8S and currently have the amazing S2400 ( which blows them all away for sound quality. Digitakt2 is second place for sound quality)

As far as speed, ease of use and pure enjoyment of use… Digitakt2 is the king. No MPC OS UI over complexity, just super fast, and straight to the point.
As you mentioned, its sequencer and midi sequencer is unmatched for a drum machine. Being able to change sample presets per track step or sequence adjustments to every parameter per step… just unmatched.

DT2 and S2400… killer combo and all you will ever need

RE BATTERY : I use an 18Ah LiFePO battery with power pole connector. Works like a charm for a LONG TIME.

Bulletproof is the right word: That‘s why I‘m glad that there is no internal battery, as I want this device to boot up in 25 years and not be ruined by an internal leaked battery

I love my Digitakt and was interested in this. It upset me they didnt go with a battery.. It's such a bummer. I ended up picking up a PD to power my Elektron boxes and take them on the go and trips and its a game changer. Maybe they wanted the box to be in a studio? They are expensive but I do love them. I love the performance feature, something I felt I missed with my DT. It's tempting but not enough to replace my DT. For now

I also love their concepts. It's very gamified. Like with all their symbols, and rules. It's like playing a video game. I think that's brilliant. They really have a unique workflow.

Good video. I do believe you'll be able to export once Overbridge is implemented. I'm SURE that is coming with the next update. It's in Beta. The slicing issue is a serious one for me. For $1000, this should offer more ability with slicing. Battery....yeah...it would make it better. I just resigned myself to a power brick. But again, that's only if I'm working away from a building (i.e.no wall electricity). Pretty much stick to my studio anyway.

I’m using an external battery pack I bought when the first one came out and still get about 5 hours of use out of it. It was under $100 even back then.

I’m sure it’s going to get a ton of updates and I’m excited for it.
