I've always wondered if service dogs truly understood how to navigate where you wanted to go, so that's awesome. I still don't fully understand how they do it, but service dogs like Mr Maple are awesome, caring and intelligent!

Finding the detour seemed like part of the training, the fact that he knew he needed to reconnect to the original path was remarkable! He seemed to look to Paul while trying to determine if they should turn down the detour, & when Paul encouraged him with "Good Boy" (even though Paul had zero understanding of what was up) Mr Maple flawlessly solved the puzzle. It is terrifying when I think of being in these situations in my future, yet y'all continue to give me hope for my future & that I don't have to be isolated from life ❤

Can we take a minute to thank the person who trained Mr. Maple so well to handle these situations this way? Also, Paul, the level of trust you need to have in Maple's ability is amazing. I know Matthew was present & filming this (to show us, natch!), but it highlights the trust any vision impaired person needs to have. Thank you for the demonstration.❤

Ah, the “Marvelous Mister Maple.” A properly trained seeing-eye dog is a wonder. Salty and Roselle were two guide dogs who helped their owners out of the twin towers on 9/11/2001. Roselle led her owner and at least 30 others down stairs from the 78th floor of tower 1, exiting just before tower 2 collapsed. She stayed calm and focused on guiding, even as debris from the tower fell all around. A dear friend has RP and has been functionally blind for two decades. We’re in California and he just retired his second guide dog and is waiting on a third, and all were trained through “Guide Dogs For The Blind” in San Rafael, where Roselle of 9-11 fame was trained. Such dedicated, intelligent dogs!

Wow, that's incredible! I think I would probably have been more confused than Maple trying to navigate that detour. He looked around and made the right decision without any hesitation. Love that he went back to the sidewalk when it was available again. He is so smart and well-trained, what an amazing dog!

What a good doggo❤❤❤ I'm disabled from a heaping handful of chronic conditions, and my Chug (chihuahua pug. I found her as a stray) can always tell and she will be SO gentle around me, she won't step on or lean on my stomach at all(where my pain is) and she will lay up by my head🫶 animals are amazing❤

Wow!! Incredible!! What a good boy!!! This is why I want to train sight/therapy dogs, it's incredible the intelligence both emotionally and logically. They are such good pups and can be life changers for many people, it's incredible all they can do with people with disabilities. Give Maple love for me, will you, he's a previous handsome man!❤

Wow, it’s so amazing how intelligent Mr. Maple is! He gracefully and safely guides Paul to his destination regardless of what road conditions awaits for the journey, doesn’t he? 🥺💕 I am starting to believe that we should all strive to find loving people in our lives who would look at you as lovingly and genuinely Maple looks at Paul ❤
