You cant see effects of aperture blades when the lens is wide open because the blades are fully retracted. They'll come into play as you stop down

Coming from the Canon 1Dx series I left Canon for the Nikon Z9 and although it was a learning curve for me I am so happy with that very very customizable camera

I like your reviews over JP. You always have good pros and cons and never appear biased or hypocritical. Thanks for your channel.

The Sigma 85 1.4 DG DN for e Mount has 11 blades as well. Portraits come out fantastic with that lens

Jared Polin has confirmed on his video that he is having the same "Eye lashes" auto focus issue with the Canon. This is not a specific issue on a Nikon and can be found on Canon and Sony cameras, too.

I still use my old 85mm 1.8 G with FTZ in my z6 II
My clients still like very much.

great review (as always)

so if you had to pick between the 85 1.2 and the 135 1.8 which would it be... primary use non-studio portraits

Manny, you forgot to list the adapter mounting the GoPro. Where do I find it?

Hey Manny thanks for the honest quick look at the 85mm 1.2. I'm on a waiting list for the lens. Keep it going brother. Chuck

I agree about the camera updates, and my guess is that the next three things Nikon releases in 2023 which are over $2k will be the Z6III, the Z7III, and the 35mm f/1.2. Hopefully the AF issues you found when close will be fixed in the firmware before the full production release.

Daaang. This popped up on my feed and freakin' glad it was your video man. I've been looking forward to the Nikon 85 1.2S for such a LOONG time. Good to know its lighter than Canons. Great review as always, even though it's the pre-production model, was great to see what the 85 1.2S can do! :D

Thanks Manny for it! What about focus breathing? My strenght are parades and there were many reason for chosing Z system for it. Sealed body (For heavy rain and salty air), no overheating issues (I do video 4K with Z9 and Z6II), no focus breathing is somelike key cause I compose close and away within 2 shots simultaneasly, Balanced system (no injuries on arm). All this at extreme low light conditions where I use ISo 2000 to 12500. Thousands of people pass through me and my focussing accuraccy is higher than 90%. A whole month of february at full action. Was imposible to to this with R5 and R6, they just shut down. So everytime I hear complain on Nikon, my experience as a professional photographer differs like you say.

Truth is clients don't give a toss about any of this stuff, they just want lovely flattering images and it doesn't really matter what lens or camera you use at all!

Wow Manny you've done it again brother! Another great video content. Your knowledge base on all these types of lenses is incredible 👏
I have followed you for a couple years now and I've always appreciated your deep influences of photography, which convinced me to buy gear and get into photography myself. But unfortunately time got away from me when I got diagnosed with cancer and now all I do is spend every minute with my daughter, my little twin because life is short and never promised 💔
Born and raised in Chicago in Logan Square, I take time with my daughter and show her all the beauty of Chicago and try my best to build as much memories of us together ❤️
I thought of doing a photo shoot or video of some sort of us but never took the next steps to learn. Hopefully one day! 🙏 Thank you for devoting your time and sharing your knowledge and experiences to the world 🌎
Blessings to you brother 🙏

Thank you Manny for that insightful, and thought through preview of this lens. I think you made some excellent observations and comparisons and did justice to both Nikon and Canon on this one.

I am a Nikon guy and have been for over 30 years, and am admittedly biased (a little - I try to stay objective). I think this Nikon lens will be spectacular and I already pre-ordered my copy from NPS this morning.

In general, I like that Nikon takes care to go the extra mile with their optics: controlled focus breathing (in the lens - not the body like Sony), more aperture blades (this is subtle, but I think it the right direction for a lens of this type and price), kept the weight down and maintained a great balance in the hands, and kept the lens more silent - the Z lenses are doing the best job of providing high end pro lenses for both stills and video of the three big manufacturers in my opinion - and I have used the Canon system as well. This new Nikon 85mm 1.2 s lens is a shining example of this fact.

That said, there are no flies on the Canon version of this lens, and I have no doubt that as a portrait and wedding shooting either would crush the job.

Thanks again for your down to earth, common sense approach.

10:50 what about for 50mm? Can you share the review lens? I guess 28mm make distortion right?

Kind of weird how Nikon does everything right and people still hate on them.
They have the best lenses out there by a wide margin.
