Do you own premium bonds? How have they performed?

Great return. We have £100k invested in Premium Bonds and my daughter and I "battle" it out each month to see who is the winner. She managed to take the lead last month on the cumulative winning, after her dad leading the way for months :-)

You bringing your family into this video makes it even more entertaining

I started buying premium bonds after subscribing to your channel. I’ve only got £400 so far as I try to fill my ISA allowance first but I did win £100 in this month’s draw which was a very nice surprise given the small amount of bonds I have.

I hold £50, 000 and my wife started the year with £40, 800 and all her prizes are reinvested. Here are our winnings for 2024 in the format - Month Mine/Her's. Jan 100/50, Feb 800/350 (Wow!), Mar 200/100, Apr 100/175, May 225/175, Jun 150/Nil, Jul 175/Nil, Aug 675/100, Sep 100/275, Oct 650/50, Nov 75/275, Dec 325/100. So, I won £3575 which is return of 7.15%. My wife won £1650, finishing the year with £42, 450, which is an approximate return of 3.9%. Not bad at all.

I had almost the full amount. I withdrew it all in 2024 and paid it off my mortgage balance. Great decision in hindsight, the only thing that held me back doing it sooner was the gamble of a big win 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well done to the four of you!
I have 50K invested and my total return for the year was I am hoping that 2025 will be a big improvement!

I have £45, 000 invested. From January to December 2024, I won £1, 575. The people who claim it's all a scam in newspapers, etc, are probably holding £10 worth that their grandma bought them decades ago. A cousin once won £100, 000!

I have 20k in PBs since about April. Won £250 so far. I have put £6k into my T212 GIA and that's made over £500 over the same time period. Not great returns from PBs, but I'm a higher rate tax payer, so I use them as a way to take taxable money off the table, as I use my full ISA allowance at the start of the tax year in my Stocks and Shares ISA.

I hold the max and won £2, 250 last year and £1, 975 so far this year, including £525 last month, my biggest win. As you do this is just set it and forget. Any wins are always welcome and a tax free bonus.

The fun factor of premium bonds is a large element of the attraction, plus if you have maximised SIPP and ISA availability for the tax year then the tax-free element of premium bonds is another bonus. I like 'em, and I liked this video along with all your others. Thanks!

In the last 12 months I've received almost twice as much with £30k than as with £50k in the preceding 12 months. Obviously id have received even more had i held the £20k but sold to release some cash. Not suggesting that this is a good strategy, it just shows the variability.
OTOH I should have sold it all and bought any of, the S&P500, Nvidia, Apple, Palantir or Tesla .(picked those because I hold them already except the S&P500)

Of course, since the 4 of you exceeded the average, theres another group of 4 somewhere who received the equivalent less than the average.

Thanks for the link to the PB odds calculator will check that out.

I use premium bonds as am additional rate taxpayer as my short term emergency fund just like you do. ISA already maxed out 👍

A great result from Mrs CI in 2024!! I had a better year than last year and outperformed the expected return for the full holding but not by much. 3 years now since I held the full amount and the biggest single win for me is £500 in August 24. Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2025 👍🏻

Nice one mate, also started my NS&I bond journey and in 2025 I'm looking to push more shares and stocks and make more progress with my savings.

I came across your channel by accident a few months ago and I've been enjoying your videos ever since, very interesting and nice to compare my own portfolio although I'm no where near you.
Merry Christmas from a new subscriber!

I enjoyed the video thanks for making a premium bond summary! I was at somewhere around 4.5-5.5% this year (not the max amount in there and topping it up made it hard to calculate exactly) so still beat the interest rates. My family also enjoys comparing our winnings each month lol

I only started about 4 years ago and put in £2k only. Had a few £25 wins, about 1 every 10 months. Them last January I won £1000, with another £50 this month!
