Hey, everyone! Here's Jesse to run you through the differences between the Maton and the Collings "OM" body shape. Both guitars sport Indian Rosewood back and sides, while the Collings has a Sitka Spruce top, and the Maton has a European Spruce top. Similar, but different. We'll let Jesse get into the details. Enjoy!

"If there's wind whistling between your ears, that's not our problem." HAHA I love this guy. I seriously watch these videos randomly in the background with no regard for the guitar just because I want to hear the jokes. Please bring this guy back. Either that or he needs to just start his own youtube channel and do whatever he wants because he's hilarious.

I have both guitars, I love them and are very close run thing between them. But it is when you plug the Maton in it blows your mind, so for me the Maton is better everyday, I rarely use the Collings!

Both guitars have a great tone, each different but great. Individual taste.

Great comparison! Both wonderful guitars. I already knew that the Collings OM2H is an incredible guitar, i would probably want an Adi top for it. But the Maton CS played unplugged is a discovery for me and totally defies the „myth“ that Maton only sounds good plugged in. They are different yes, difficult decision to decide for one. Exactly boils down to personal preferences .... and even then not easy

I'm a proud Australian and have owned many Maton's, on this occasion the Collings wins hands down, so much richer with way nicer bass response, the maton sounds thin and brittle in comparison

How about a comparison with the Maton Messiah 808? Same woods as the Collings, albeit slightly different shapes, but well within the comparison ballpark.

Being a Maton fan I’d say Maton. Plus, plug the Maton in and be prepared to be blown away.

I have heard Andy has gone from Maton as he was very sick. A huge loss to Maton, and very sad. I'm an Australian guitarist that loves Gibson, Martin, and Maton. I have them all, and appreciate them all for what they are and how they play. The best the world has to offer. They all sound incredible

I think they both sound great, and I don’t play at your level, nor know what they feel like to play. I will say that the sounds coming from the Collings are much nicer, and pleasant to my ear.

It's mostly in the back and sides that make the sound, more punch with maple

I played and Maton CS and a Santa Cruz OM side by side yesterday - both sounded amazing but different.

Both have positive chimes. However, if I were to buy one, I'd buy a Collings, buy American. I suspect if I lived in Australia, it would be the Maton..

not many can stand up to a Collings ❕
try Collings vs scgc, Martin, Bourgeois.
if the Maton is anywhere near a Larrivee, Taylor, Breedlove, Gibson then that's a great class of builder's to belong to, just a single rung below Collings, and I don't mean in tone or build, but in buyer appeal ❕😍
all these builders produce phenomenal guitars ❕❕🐸

I don’t know, but I’m satisfied with my Collings OM-2H that I bought from you when you still sold them that I’m not looking for anything else.

Hi it's old Don here from Hamilton NZ, with just my opinion, they sound Very similar, perhaps the maton is Slightly louder- sweeter, but that Might be because of the 'string stroke ' 😮😮😊

The Maton surprised me sounds a lot like a wonderful Larivee I played about 30yrs ago, in a dealership in Edinburgh. But I have to admit to owning two Collings. 😉

Maton is obviously braced differently. Therefore it shimmers in a glorious Maton style. Their sound is pretty unique, which is further emphasised with rosewood.
Collings guitar is equally fine, but with different bracing resulting in more subdued, "traditional" (or "predictable") tone.

I knew before the fade in it was the collings haha. Doesnt help that the matons have a big steel block under the bridge for the pickup also.

Does the Maton have the same dimensions as a standard OM? Both guitars sound very good.
