I heard one fitness instructor say don't worry about the width or foot direction of your stance, or straight back in the beginning. Work on getting more upright and all the rest slowly. Hearing that took a load off my mind. I'm such a silly man sometimes. I started doing it a lot more. And improving!

The trick is to concentrate. If you cant channel your energy mentally then you will not be able to increase your stance.

Almost the first thing he says is that the feet are ~shoulder-width apart while showing a picture of a guy standing with his feet apart at least twice that. 😞

Try the Kenpo horse stance. I think it’s better for your knees. You’re not using your knees as a prop.
In China standing in a Horse Stance is called Standing on Stake. It is a type of qigong.
In China they hold this Stance for hours.

it's a very difficult stance, not as easy as it looks, nobody can do it properly without a real master supervision. despite its basic look it's full of very important details, you can't just go for it. To me, horse stance is like a religion, but I wouldn't advise to try it at home. A lot of pain is involved in the horse stance and you don't want to experience any pain while training without supervision.
