Here are three of my favorite Google Hacks for interpreters!

Please keep in mind these shouldn't replace your note-taking, memory, or listening skills. I only suggest these hacks as additional resources to do a better job.

It's Google. The information is not 100% reliable, so always check and confirm with the speakers if you are unsure, following the appropriate intervention protocol.

Also, if you are interpreting in a healthcare-related encounter, make sure all you do complies with HIPAA.

I already use the maps hack because for me addresses are very difficult to get for the same reasons you mentioned. I will try the target language one as it makes so much sense. I won’t be able to use the caption hack as company’s computer won’t allow it, but it actually sounds like a great advise. I love what you do here :)

Hi Rosa, I have shadowed other interpreters. The caption is soo helpful when clients speak more than you can remember. He used it as his notes not as verbatim. Yes use all tools available

Be careful, my husband told me that if you add that chrome extension it will also hear and record what you say in your environment not just over the calls. Risky for privacy, not worth it. It seemed like a good idea, but like me husband said we are equipped with our own note taking skills and out interpreting skills to do this guys. I appreciate the tips though.

The Google Map hack is against some companies' compliance policies. So, interpreters should really check with their agency before they do this.
