Destro winery is located 750 m.a.s.l. on the north side of Etna, between Randazzo and Passopisciaro. What makes this winery special is that they concentrate on two indigenous Etna grapes only; black Nerello Mascalese and white Carricante. The second thing is that they use the barrels only twice, and then sent back to the producer in France.

With only two grape varieties Destro manages to produce twelve different wines, all with individual character. Actually they produce 13, but the brut 96 months is not on the website. I bought it on site and will post about. Destro produces red, white and brut wines. Vines grow on nine hectars in total and produces circa 75000 bottles yearly.

We got to meet the owner Antonino who takes care of the tours, which is rare, and practically lives at the vineyard as he can not stay away, and the passion for his creations shows very much in the end results.

Wines we tasted were:
Brut Saxanigra Pas Dose 2016 Metodo Classico
Nerello Mascalese
In bottle "sur lie" for at least 36 months

Aspide Etna Rosso (forgot the year)
Nerello Mascalese
Steel tanks, Bottle aging 2-4 months
