My 2022 notebook and planner lineup video.

What notebooks do I use for my writing and my writing business?

I have six notebooks (journals, a tracking notebook and planners) for 2022 to help with with my writing, my creativity, my writing and mentoring business and to track my reading.

I have a writing journal which helps me with my creative ideas, my anxieties and my plans plus lots more. My second writing journal is for when the first is full. I have my A5 planner for planning out the overview of my writing and creative projects. I have The Planner Pad which helps me divide my projects into much smaller tasks and allocate them to days of the week. I have my tracking journal to remind myself how much I have achieved. This is a great confidence booster and gives momentum for the next projects. And finally I have my reading journal.

My notebooks consist of:

The videos I refer to within this video are:

My name is Helen Redfern and I'm a writer of fiction and non-fiction and mentor for unconfident creatives.

I have an obsession for notebooks and credit my writing journal with helping me become a better writer, for giving me direction and focus as a writer and helping me work out what mental obstacles stand in my way - like procrastination, fear of success (or failure) and imposter syndrome.

I have a blog, a weekly newsletter called Desk Stories where I share behind the scenes thoughts about writing and pushing forward with my creative dreams and I'm very proud to have a membership club: The Confident Creative Club . A warm, welcoming, inspiring and motivating online space for unconfident creatives to take tiny steps towards their creative dreams.

Is six notebooks too many?! I'm enjoying my notebook lineup for 2022. The second notebook, the green one, is a Yop & Tom one - I didn't introduce that properly. Details are in the description.

I have used a Planner Pad every year for decades! It is my refuge from chaos, but I absolutely have to use adjunct books for the big picture as you do.

I have 3 journals:
1. Bullet journal for keeping track of life- this is essentially my "planner"
2. A writing tracker, where i write the total of my manuscript at the end of a day, also keep story ideas
3. A bedside journal for anything that i want to write down. I transfer the messy notes to their proper place later

I love the system you use and thanks for sharing!

Helen, this is great! I will be using your approach as inspiration for my own tracking journal. Another nice video - thanks!

Thank you so much for this! I no longer feel I’m being excessive by having more than one notebook. You have given me permission!

What is your writing setting like? Where do you do your writing? At a desk? On the sofa? I’m asking so I can learn from you.
