This is fantastic....your right it can get to immersive creating a patch. I get a great crunch and then I try to build extra using the processing space I have left 😂and then loose focus on my original tone.

I remember back in the 80s when I'd just be contented with 5 BETAMAX adult movies that my uncle gave me, never asked for more, life was simple

Hey man, I did the same thing with my Kemper, I literally deleted all the profiles that comes with it, i got so overwhelmed espicially with the thousands of community rigs, I started with a basic clean and dirt profiles that suits me and from there its just small tweaks, your video points out the obvious for most of us who can't make up our mind and for some whom always wanting the latest tech, cheers

Its fun to create sounds. One thing I like and have found, is letting your friends play with your amp a bit and see where they set it and play it a while yourself atcthese settings. Especially those that are better than you. Having a different point of view sometimes can open some new sounds or new ways to setup things you would have not thought using. :)

Leon great post .
Went to a Vinnie Moore workshop in the mid 80s and he was using an older Ibanez pedal one of the plastic ones for solo boost that has 4 or 5 controls .
Vinnie was saying he loves that pedal but it gives him option anxiety, it's funny brought back memories for a small pedal in comparison to a powerful processer modeler the evolution could not be imagined back then .

Good topic and approach!

I experienced option paralysis when I first purchased an Axe-Fx. Everything sounded great, and not only are there so many choices, there are so many parameters to tweak...

I got out of it by deciding what core sounds I needed, and what effects I wanted for each. I ended up with a few clean, edge, crunch, gain and lead patches, with different effects.

Once I did that, I realized I didn't need a Fractal, I sold it and went down market, but eventually got a Helix...same thing: more than I really needed, sold and down market again.

The IR choice explosion is even more option paralysis. I prefer tone sculpting/shaping systems like Axiom or PolyChrome DSP - wish these had hardware options.

If I can get good core tones, I stick with them with slight variations / effects, I'm good.

Love your channel Leon!
I just bought a used FM3, arrived two days ago. I am still on the bunny hill with it so I'll be going thru your fractal vids throughout the day. Bee-tah :)

Option Paralysis. Its a thing! Being old school and spending years working with the same kit before all these emulation options, there is something about the limitations I appreciate(d). Same for recording plugins. I made a conscious effort to pare down what I have and even with that, so so many more options than when I first started recording.

With NAM its really over the top but the major drawback with NAM is not having any options to adjust the gain so more to your point, you're going through so many more presets than maybe adjusting one that would be usable with a few tweaks.

Very much so my friend sometimes keeping it simple, and to the point is the way to go.

even though I don't have option paralysis this is a good approach. sorta like the KISS formula: Keep It Simple & Smart. thanks as always Leon!

The thing that gets me is every time I learn how to dial in a better sound, my Presets need to edited so I can enjoy the benefits of that new understanding. Fortunately, I have some Presets (Rigs) on my Modeler that I rarely, if ever feel the need to edit.

Option Paralysis, is any time I start digging into the cabinet IR's.

The huge problem with this is that the cabs dictate at least 75% of the tone on saturated presets.

I'd really like a video where Leon explains from the ground up all of these digital platforms, amps, FX programs etc like Helix and Fractal FX etc. Where it's all explained simply for the beginner.

Because this stuff can be infernally complex for beginners.

Hey Leon. Great stuff here. Question - I've noticed particularly in the last few videos of yours that in the Cab block, you don't set your Low Cut and High Cut in the "Cab" section, you set them in the "Preamp" Section. Is there a difference or a particular reason why?

I know you like your PRS guitars, but that Les Paul looks and sounds supreme 👌

I don't have this problem. I had a Mooer Ge250. On the first day I scrolled through the first patches and there were 2 or 3 I liked. I had this devide for a year nd never did any tweaking.
