I''m just trying to figure out how to grow clover as a lawn alternative, I have no idea about this herd stuff but sounds like a unique specialty. For researchers like me, maybe put "herd" in the title to help target in on a search specific to a baby boomer, sedentary, senior woman lol.

I keep just 1/2 acre in clover at all times. I have fall brassica hunt plots that go in after buckwheat flowers. I also have some really rank old pasture areas that I will plant this fall with red and white clover, oats and orchard grass to make a new meadow. Clover is useful in many applications.

We planted clover seed inoculated with Rhizobium bacteria last fall and the results were phenomenal with better germination and growth

Basically exactly what we are doing lol. Got the clover/chicory because we want to build the herd and really get to see what deer are in the area. We will have Egyptian wheat screening for the edges of the plot then we will be drilling beans into it for the mid and late season. Combination of things I want to try and things you have taught me and things I have been learning in my QDMA classes.

Although there were many great tips in todays video, the point that really resonated with me was....if... you have to clip it 2, 3, 4 times a year you have too much at a time when there is plenty...thanks for new ideas and for strengthening the faith in existing ideas...

I’ve been doing a clover plot for 8 years now but you have convinced me to switch to buckwheat followed by cool season annuals this year. I see a huge decline in deer mid to late October every year when the clover dies out and hoping to hold them longer this year, thank you for all your great info!

Very good video Jeff. I have some friends who need to hear this one. I have had a quarter acre plot in a wooded area for ten years. It servers very well as a hunting plot. Talking “clover” as good or bad is a general term for plots. I have found (the hard way) it makes a big difference whether someone is planting annual or perennial clover and equally important which species for their location and soil type. Last fall I added annual crimson clover to my rye and wheat planting. The deer see to be enjoying that plot. There you go again –chicory. Have you had your chicory coffee yet?

Farmers planted clover with oats for ever here after the oats come off you usaully end up with a nice clover field seem it alot back in the day not so much anymore are area is just straight rye here and beans after that if the rye comes off early some farmers burn down the rye and no till corn but back in day alot of guys planted oats and clover to reclaim hay fields

I love your content and watch your videos for valuable information. I have some property in southern WV. I just don't like the thought of burning my ground with glyphosate. I'd rather just take a flail mower to it and be done. I also like to incorporate native wildflowers for pollinators. I know this sounds hippie-ish, but have you ever thought about doing some stuff regarding a more natural food plots that not only incorporates habitat improvement for whitetail but also other critters/pollinators. I believe there would be a market for this. Just thinkin'

Hi Jeff - currently preparing seed beds for clover planting later. I’ve done my liming but I still need to fertilize. Should I fertilizer before throwing seed down or after? For clover or otherwise.
