The GIANT BEAR that Was the Size of a DINOSAUR | Arctotherium
Millions of years ago, there was a mammal so colossal that it could rival the dinosaurs in size: the Arcotherium, a giant prehistoric bear that inhabited South America during the Pleistocene period. This titan, considered one of the largest land carnivores in history, could reach up to 4 meters in height when standing on its hind legs and weighed more than 1,500 kilograms. Its size and strength were comparable to those of an Allosaurus, one of the most feared predators of the dinosaur era.

Despite its imposing appearance, Arcotherium was not a dinosaur, but a member of the short-faced bears, distant relatives of today's bears. This colossus roamed the vast plains and forests of South America, hunting large prey or scavenging the remains of other animals. However, its enormous size was not enough to survive climatic changes and the arrival of humans, which led to its extinction.

The Arcotherium is an impressive reminder that mammals also had their age of giants, and its story shows us how evolution and the environment shaped these exceptional creatures.

you know there were chicken sized dinosaurs too right?
so saying it was the size of dinosaurs is like saying: a bear that was the size of mammals.
