I have learned that Casper followed the remaining Coyotes to their den and finished them off. It is a trait. And why he was gone for 2 days.

Coyotes: You really going to die for these sheep?

Casper: Somebody's going to

Coming from an army vet, he's as brave as any soldier I've ever heard of. I salute you Casper!

Give that beautiful dog an early retirement and let him live in your home. He earned every bit of it. What a wonderful dog !

I'm glad they brought him to the vet and didn't put him down! He absolutely deserved to be saved!

I'm an old woman living alone. I feel safe because of my Great Pyrenees and a Lab Rottweiler mix. No one is going to bother me. They live both indoors and outdoors and are great guardian dogs together.

Congrats to Casper for winning the American Farm Dog of the Year People's Choice award for 2023! He surely deserved it!

30 minutes of continuous combat against an entire pack of coyotes? That dog deserves the equivalent of the Medal of Honor!!

We live in a very rural area, with coyotes and feral hogs. The feral hogs tear up the pasture. We have 5 Great Pyrenees dogs, all about 2 years old now. At first the neighbor was not happy about our dogs showing up on his property and even threatened to shot them. We explained that these dogs are Great Pyrenees and they are guard dogs and will not kill his calves. One day this past spring the neighbor’s wife came over and said that her husband wanted us to keep the dogs in their kennels because they were expecting calves. We again explained about the dogs, and we even pointed out that we don’t have any fresh digging in our pasture because the dogs keep the feral hogs off the pasture. Last week the neighbor came by to visit and he was telling us that our dogs are now guarding his cattle and was happy about that. We also asked him if the feral hogs were still digging up his pasture and he admitted that he had seen no recent digging. We all smiled. Great Pyrenees are good dogs in a rural environment. Can’t say enough about how good this breed of dog will guard and keep predators away.

There should never have been a question about whether to take him to a vet or not. He’s a hero

I am from the Pyrennees, in my childhood we owned several of this amazing breed. Thye would face, wolves, bears, other wildogs, ....whatever threatened the family and the animals of the property. They are the most loyal, noble, and fearless dogs you could imagine, such beautiful giants. I just loved them, still cry when i remember them.

Super Heroic Dog,
He’s a tough Boy-
Worth his weight in gold!
Took on 12-13 coyotes & won.
But as the vet suggested,
Not only did he protect the sheep, but also other nearby pets, because a pack of 13, wouldn’t think twice about hunting someone’s Pomeranian or their poodle, or could attack a human, a small child wouldn’t stand a chance,
This dog is a hero.

The reason he was gone for those 2 days is because he tracked the other coyotes down to their den and finished the rest of the coyotes off. Extraordinary dog and story.

I’m in California, and behind my house is a field with two coyotes living there. Right beside the field is a farm. One day, I watched one of the coyotes sneak into the farm. Not realizing there was a great Pyrenees guarding his herd and flock, the dog began its pursuit, but the coyote was able to get away. It was a very close call for the coyote.
The dog seemed proud, waging his tail after the victory.

Oh my goodness. Everything in this story made me so emotional. But for some reason the part that made me shed a tear was how that wonderful vet started a go fund me and raised more than they asked for, so the money will help save the next animal who desperately needs it. That’s beautiful.
