Cut bait and live bait is the best. But sometimes baits like lunch meat, chicken livers, shrimp, bacon, chicken, etc work great too!

In my experience chicken liver only works for blue catfish and channel catfish, flathead catfish on the other hand are obligate hunters meaning they only eat other fish so you're not going to catch any flathead catfish on chicken liver for the most part.

And if you don’t want to spend $10 on panty hose you can get some sewing string for 99cent and wrap into a bait ball around a treble hook. For a better hook up ratio. But chicken liver is the 2nd best bait behind live/cut bait

If no on the panty hose, or lemon bag, use hollewed lickerish left in the sun foe a few days, that work great!
