You told me once I was your pride and joy
I guess those days are dead and gone
You must have took me for some golden boy
You didn't know what you were taking on
It was a hard up case

It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case
It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case

Now all the angles have been played in three's
There isn't much that I can say
I know you gave your little heart to me
I guess I threw the thing away
It was a hard up case

It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case
It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case

Sometimes the truth is kind of hard to find
But don't you worry I can read your mind
And you don't have to tell me to my face
You put some other joker in my place

They dealt us houses full with the queens and kings
And now they're calling out our bluff
'Cause you and me girl we had everything
But it just wasn't quite enough
Now that's a hard up case

It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case
It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case

You say the truth is gonna set me free
Like you might throw a dog a bone
I know you're thinking that the joke's on me
Just take a look at what you 're dragging home --
Another hard up case

It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case
It was a hard up case
Just another hard up case

That cat was just one of a kind.. in a great way. Some people criticize his vocal style and even his guitar chops.. personally I think he was massively underrated in both areas, this also includes his talent as a remarkable songwriter and a damn great bassist. Steely Dan wasn't just the amazing Donald Fagen ;) Like McCartney and Lennon, they were both fantastic songwriters in different ways.

Sounds wonderful! I was just listening to 11TOW tonight as I was rearranging furniture and waking up the neighbors with my racket and occasional dancing. They’re up now anyway so I’m delighted for this too ! Thanks ❤

Please upload the rest of the Slim's set in full if you have it! 11 Tracks of Whack is one of my favorite albums of all time and live versions of all those songs are a rarity, we definitely need as much live material that exists for that. Particularly hoping to hear Junkie Girl, Down at the Bottom, Girlfriend, and Cringemaker from this set

I was one of those lucky enough to be at that show. One of the great nights of my life. To this day, no one has ever done anything even remotely similar to what Steely Dan did. And Walter was criminally underrated. One of my favorite music makers of all time. I remember listening to interviews with the two of them back in the day and yeah, Donald had lots of interesting things to say, but it was always Walter who brought the understated subversive element, dropping epic one-liners that made me laugh out loud. Taking nothing away from Fagen, the man's a maestro, no doubt, but when they did their separate solo projects, it became really obvious which of the two was the main perpetrator of that trademark dark humor they were known for.
