Ok. If your hold options ever disappear you have to reset the thermostat by pressing and holding the menu and plus buttons. Navigate the options using the plus button until you get to reset to default. Once the thermostat comes back on it will have the hold option restored. Hit the minus button to show the hold options and when hold appears press it to change it to permanent hold.

These people don't know how to resolve a missing hold option. The option disappeared from my thermostat!
