The Gateless Gate (The Gateless Barrier), is a collection of 48 Zen koans compiled in the early 13th century by the Chinese Zen master Wumen Huikai. The title has a double meaning and can also be understood as Wumen's Barrier; the compiler's name, which literally means "No Gate", is the same as the title's first two characters. Wumen's preface indicates that the volume was published in 1228. Each koan is accompanied by a commentary and verse by Wumen. A classic edition includes a 49th case composed by Anwan in 1246. Wu-liang Tsung-shou also supplemented the volume with a verse of four stanzas composed in 1230 about the three checkpoints of Zen master Huanglong. These three checkpoints of Huanglong should not be confused with Doushuai's Three Checkpoints found in Case 47.

I have listened to this several times. Each time my general understanding of life becomes a little clearer.

I listened to this before sleep and dreamt I was wandering. I saw a monastery and walked in, bowed, and asked for a teaching. They gave me a book of calligraphy. I said I cannot read it. Then, they asked: "How can one learn if they cannot understand?". I answered: "I don't know". They smiled and said: "Come back tomorrow"

I wasn’t planning on writing this but reading some of the comments made we want to do this. I am letting the universe take all the negative energy around me and replace it with positive energy. If you are reading this I wish the same for you

This only tells about the subtle nuances of life we see everyday and seek to or rather feel compelled to offer an explanation but the meaning is lost the moment we do so or becomes more complicated in the explanation. And we know To remain silent is a crime on love and to explain is crime on the senses.
What does one do? You are detested if you don't teach it...yet if you do you confuse it.
Ahhhh this life!!
Yet without this very element understanding would be impossible to so many different personalities nor would the one truth be discernable in the so many different experiences of life.
It more possible for the teacher to tell a student what the truth is
NOT
than what it
IS.
This knowledge is personal/experiential.

I think I got it

But funny this is that as soon as I started typing this and talking about it, I lost it

I think it’s pretty simple. It’s about seeing life without the filter of cognition and abstraction on top of it

But of course, as soon as you start putting it into words, the concept becomes a cognitive abstraction

It’s not really about attaining anything. It’s about getting the thinking mind to shut up, and stop trying to put life into boxes

But just reading this won’t do you any good, because you’ll take this information and treat it as an abstract concept

Satori experience is possible. I had a taste if enlightenment twice in my life, but I could keep it. As quickly as the deep insight appeared in my mind, it left. It was an understanding that could not be conveyed in words. Trying to find the right words to describe the idea is what made me loose it.

The first time I had read something about non-self. I was daydreaming about what it meant whilst driving my car across town as one does from time to time. My mind wandered far and wide and completely on something else. Something about this made me think this might be what non-self meant.
