The guy screaming in the video literally broke his pelvis from the impact

My cousin had a medical discharge from the army because of all the jumps he made. Even when done right it still destroys your knees over time.

"Most injuries happen upon ground impact." Who would have thought!

I know a guy, got dropped in a shit spot. Wound up being a marsh. He tried to do that, but his legs sank into mud up to his knees. Rolled forwards anyways and was dragged out by his chute. He received a medical discharge because there was no saving his knees. Then he got screwed by the VA.

“Unfortunately, Sir, The VA has determined that your injury is Not service related”

That’s just the beginning of the rest of their troubles. As the guy gets dragged away

Jimi Hendrix was a paratrooper in the 101st Abn. Div. He broke an ankle on a practice jump and was discharged. The 101st later got slaughtered on Hamburger Hill in Vietnam.

Was just thinking how bad it could be if that guy landed on the power line

Knew a guy who was a SEAL for 6 years and then an Air Force Pararescueman for 8 who will tell you that it doesn't matter how good YOU are at landing, it matters how good the guys AROUND you are.

He was making his final jump on a SOF training rotation (he was the trainer) and had a trainee steal his air at around 200 feet off the ground. Fell like a sack of bricks and was lucky it happened over a hedgerow, as he only ended up with two broken tibias, a fractured femur, dislocated hips, 3 broken ribs, and a broken collarbone. If it had been over flat ground he would have been 100% dead.

In Spec Ops they train to use steerable parachutes after making several dozen static line jumps, and stealing air is when you maneuver underneath another jumper without enough space for the updrafts to keep the higher jumper's chute filled, for the unaware.

This is speaking from first hand experience, those T11's we use in the army were made to make you fall as fast as "safe" can be. No matter how many times we trained to "learn how to disperse" the shock at jump school, you never really get used to the feeling of landing. I'm only 24 but my lower back and knees are absolutely TERRIBLE now💀

At Fort Benning at the time, on one of our first real jumps before graduation and earning those jump wings and Maroon Berets, some idiot locked his knees and shattered his whole tibia. Poor guy never graduated with our class but I do hope he gave it another try after his recovery. This was straight out of AIT too, as a medic, i got to see a nasty real injury even before I got to my first real unit.

In a combat situation, a combatant does not want to drift down slowly and gracefully. Getting out of the air as fast as possible is essential.

Had an NCO who landed like that in airborne school and dislocated his kneecap and hip. It was a damn shame because the guy was a stud and lost his shot at getting ranger because of the recovery time.

Ah, so they quite literally meant "break a leg" when they shoved me out of the plane
