The sound is very accurate for an A model. I was a carrier Air wing maintenance officer when the A and B model were in service!! The TF-30s were total shit in real life as well!!

You are supposed to wait until the RPM's lower until (I think) 10%-ish. I don't know the exact numbers for the F14A, but most aircraft you must wait until the engine spools down a bit.
