Euroscola - 17 November 2017

There were many reasons why this Euroscola session, gathering 575 high-school students and teachers, was so special:
√ Hannes -a German participant- celebrated his 18th birthday on that day
√ a bagpipe player gave a performance in the hemicycle
√ the Greek delegates quoted Aristotle saying that "the real satisfaction derives from participating in something greater than yourself"
√ the Spanish delegates responded they were "proud of being European, part of a greater project"
and
√ the Belgian delegates concluded, paraphrasing the famous Beatles' song with their typical sense of humour "You may say I am dreamer... I hope some day you'll join us and we can all have chocolate, beer, fries and waffles!"
More seriously, they had the opportunity to ask their questions to Rainer Wieland, European Parliament Vice-President. Those questions ranged from the relevance of a harmonised fiscal policy in the eurozone to the chances of Scotland of joining the EU after the Brexit, and the perspectives of Western Balkans countries such as Albania and Macedonia to become Members of the EU.
