What are the books you’re planning on reading in October?
PS. My laptop is still dead so the editing is a bit choppy (so is the sound) but at least it’s up thanks to my old computer 😂❤

Hey Emily, long time watcher of yours, hoping you'll maybe take a rec by me! I'm unsure if it's been mentioned to you yet but Elena Ferrante took huge inspiration from a fellow Italian writer Elsa Morante.

Earlier this year a new translation of Elsa's book Lies and Sorcery released and it was absolutely stunning. I could easily see how Elena got ideas for her heroines from her, and messy familial dynamics, and I couldn't put it down! I don't think anything can fill the Neapolitan shaped hole in your heart - but! It's something that may get a little close (as a fellow Neapolitan fanatic).

Jenny Mcphee is the translator from Italian to English, and the publisher is New York Reviews Books. It's the only translation that reflects the book in its entirety. There was a first translation into English many years ago, but they omitted chunks of the story and Elsa fought for it to be removed, because it wasn't what she wanted, etc. The one pub'd this year is perfect, however.

Sorry for the rant. Love your videos!

I read incidents around the house earlier this month and it was a 1 day read for me, I loved the perspective of storytelling from a child. I also love that my toddler fell asleep next to me while I finished the book otherwise I would have been getting up to check on her every time the house squeaks lol

Nonfiction books-A lot of introverts love the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I thought Yuval Harari's first book Sapiens was his best.

They Never Learn is a great “good for her” book. I read it a few years ago and gave it 4 stars. It’s one one of the rare books that I still remember parts of lol

I’ve got the Pumpkin Spice Cafe on my library tbr, I’m nervous cos it seems so divisive! But I did adore The Spellshop, it had a good balance of distinct character and a plot to drive the cosy fantasy. A new fave. ❤

I loved the Spell Shop! It's been one of the few 5 stars I've had this year, just in terms of having a good time while reading it. I appreciated that there was a little action but it wasn't a big part of the book and wrapped up fairly quickly.

The Appeal is SO FUN! I’ve now read all but one of her books (which I plan to read). They’re just a good time! Hope you enjoy!

On picking up nonfiction from your shelves… The Will to Change and The Politics of Reality both sound intriguing!
