I was thinking 24mm 1.4 is more versatile. Just wide enough to be able to vlog with it and if you put the camera in APS-C/Super 35 mode, you can get it to 36mm. I had the 24mm and switched to the 20mm, but I miss the F 1.4... Also even though the 20mm is wider, if you get too close when logging, it distorts your face more. I was thinking a great compact 2 lens kit would the be the 24mm F1.4 and the Sigma 28-70 2.8 on the Sony A7C. Covers a big range. At the longer focal length 2.8 is still enough to get you a nice defocused background. Wide and shallow is more rare than long and shallow.

Seeing the side-by-side...I'm leaning towards the 35mm. That background compression is *chefs kiss*

A big difference between the 35 1.4 and 25 1.4 besides focal length is the 35 1.4 has that new nano ar-ii coating which is the same as what they used on the 12-24 GM that I own as well. It is incredible at suppressing flare and maintain contrast, really important to me for landscape work. It's what made me buy that lens. I also have the sigma 35 1.2 which is really prone to flare even indoors with ceiling lights. That's what bugs me the most about it. I will be pre-ordering the sony 35 1.4 gm real soon which may replace my sigma (will have to test them side by side). Also one aspect I think some may not know is the 35 1.4 has some pretty noticeable focus breathing as it's sort of flaw that will show up in video but is not that important if you do mainly stills.

35mm is definitely my fav focal length.

I currently have the 35mm 1.8

24mm might be better on a gimbal depending on what you're shooting. Or better suited for establishing shots.

Both lenses have their purposes. I'd say if you have the cash, get both.

What about focus breathing ? the same ?

Sony has the clear image zoom. It would be great to see a comparaison between the 35mm and the 24mm x 1, 46 (C.I.Z) to see the difference of distortion and background compression. I have sensation that, at 1.4, the 24mm zoomed at 35mm will be good enough. If the faces (for exemple) are not too much distorted, the 24mm could be a better pick than the 35. Sad that you can't do this test anymore, but what do you think ?

If you have a 24mm GM already, wait for the upcoming 50GM. If you have a 85mm already, get the 35mm!

I have the 24 and agree it's a great lens. I did pre-order the 35 :)

Purchased both. The 35mm GM used graded a 10 and an open box 24mm GM. Loved the 24 GM so much, I returned the 35 GM. I will use the 35mm f2 on my Tamron 35-150 if I need full frame 35 in the future.

you only live once as James Bond was advised once. have the Sony 20mm G, 24mm f1/4 GM and this is on order too. Enjoy life as it is.

For those of is with 24mm 1.4 - why not just crop to 35mm (on the camera crop mode) instead of purchasing a whole new lens?

If I only could only have one lens, I'd go with the 35mm GM since it's the do it all lens. But I chose the 24mm GM, since I'm pairing it with the sigma 85mm 1.4. Perfect combo for me

I have the 24mm GM and the 16-35mm G F4. I returned the 35mm GM because of the focus breathing

What about focus breathing? Is it alright for video makers? which should be the best options for making video?

I think I would get the 35. It just seems like it’s in a perfect sweet spot!

Did you compare the 24mm with Super35/APS-C mode vs the 35mm ?
