Toyota Prius A/C Charging. How to charge Air conditioner on Toyota Prius 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009

We took this video to show you how to charge the AC A/C System on Toyota Prius Second Generation.
You can see where the low pressure port is located, how much refrigerant to use and what kind of oil.

Please just leave the music off. It just gets in the way and makes it harder to hear what you are saying. Thanks.

Thanks for spending the time to upload this. Can you explain further where you are connecting the freeon hose? Also, I wasn't sure why oil is needed for the recharge and where exactly it needs to be used. Thanks for your time.

Without a (new/solvent flushed/hybrid electric compressor use only) gauge set or scale or a thermometer (with appropriate probe for measuring tubing temperatures) it is VERY easy to overcharge the system resulting in reduced compressor life and poor You also need to know how to use these tools and analyze the system based on the readings if you want to be able to top off a system to a charge level that is well above the minimum required to function(100% liquid getting to the expansion valve), but not quite to the point of overcharge where you have liquid backing up out of the receiver into the condenser reducing its effective size. That kind of understanding doesn't come from a 2 minute video. Otherwise you can recover ALL the remaining refrigerant with a recovery/recycling machine and weigh in a full charge. This will give you consistent results and the maximum length of time till it needs recharging again.
If you are lucky you might be able to get by charging until the suction/low side line starts feeling cold to the touch then STOP. Suction line temperature is (barring any other faults) a more obvious indicator of undercharge than suction line pressure which will vary considerably with humidity, temperatures, fan speed, blower speed, engine speed, fouling, model and wear. This procedure will get you to a minimum charge level. Systems will work almost exactly the same between min and max charge level so if you keep charging you won't see a difference until you are starting to get overcharged. This will only be apparent on the high side.

You neglected to give any instruction about purging the air out of the charging hose first.

More explanation of why to add oil and showing the dial would have been more helpful.

I just replaced the condenser in my prius. None of the local shops seems to even know that you don't use dyes or any other oil than ND-11 in the prius AC system. The dealer wants $400 for a recharge which seems insane, but I managed to find the oil and pure 134a locally. The issue is the oils just came in a regular plastic bottle without the pressurized top. How do I add the oil to the system while also not introducing air?

what should be the psi on guage for a healthy refill?

The can that you have in the video does that work for hybrids or was it just a example

What pressure should I be aiming for? Also do I need to keep the AC running when recharging

Question. I have a 2012 prius v. The air conditioning stops running cold when the pressure is high. my mechanic said that it running as high as 450. When the ac works its is cold so their is no leaks. He said there might be a clog in the system so it has to be checked. He said that he cannot fix issue be his ac machine is not for hybrids. he said hybrids us a different machine. Is that true?

More explanation and demonstration. How do you add refrigerant? Please turn off the dance club music.

Thanks, what about the gen. 3 models? Oil and refill pressures

Your charging hose has air in it, must be purged before it is attached to the fill port.

Show the pressure readings on the delivery, If you already have pressure in the red, it has to be released. Preferably into a cylinder vacuum. Otherwise your wasting a can. This happens all the time with 2nd gen prius. I use walmart brand with no oil. For 180, 000 miles, no problems.
