I asked on instagram what butterflies meant to my followers, 95% of the responses were about #love #wedding #attraction #chemistry and #infatuation and but only 5% mentioned #anxiety #fear and needing to be careful.

Hi Lin this is well done. When it comes to relationships, Butterflies or Anxiety is actually the bipolar/borderline rush lol. Or known as arousal. This is one of the main reasons why some partners will terminate their relationship: when the arousal runs out, the mentally unwell person will go off to pursue that arousal feeling. So it's really lust, not love. From your mental health human behaviour expert.

Hi Lin I don’t know if you’ll respond to this but I want to thank you for this video because it’s really eased doubts I’ve been having for my relationship. I’m young and a lot of people my age describe love with these said butterflies but to me I don’t ever feel that to my significant other and I was worried I may not be in love with him for this reason and genuinely was scared I was doing something wrong. Hi all, I wanted to share my experience with this feeling. For many years I was confusing this anxious gut feeling with love, affection and excitement. 6 years ago I met a guy and I felt this instant connection, the butterflies in the stomach, increasing heartrate etc. He turned out to be really toxic, dishonest and disrespectful, but that feeling made me stay for a long time. I suffered a lot, because of this "deep connection" I felt between us. 6 years later we are broken up, but I still have these butterflies, but now I know that this is actually an anxiety and I don't pay attention to them, now I know that my body is trying to warn me to stay away. <3
