What do (Pet) Hedgehogs Eat?

Hedgehog dietary requirements are both a mystery and very specific! A good hedgie owner will spend lots of time researching what's best for their prickly pet, and most have come to similar conclusions that high quality cat kibble and approved bugs (mealworms, crickets) is the way to go.

Hedgehogs are considered insectivores, so we do our best to give them what they would eat in the wild: chitin for healthy quills, high protein (30%), low fat (15% max), and occasional small treats (boiled egg/chicken).

Not only do hedgies have a complex dietary needs, they also are picky eaters...Mr.Meatball tried four kinds of high quality kibbles and veterinary consultations before finding one that he would happily eat and get proper nutrition.

My pet hedgehog Sonic eats meal worms, watermelon, chicken, grasshoppers, crickets, June bugs, sometimes pears, sometimes cucumbers, once banana, and usually Vita Prima.

Caught a worm today and put it in my Olap's bowl. Not sure if he ate it or it escaped though.

Is this up to date? I saw it’s posted 5 months ago and I just want to be sure :)
edit: also can I give them dried bugs instead of live ones or do they need to be alive?
