I didn't think of using a switch to conserve power, I'll definitely use that

Meanwhile, just 1 centipede tank just drives over the traps. And they appear in most raids when you progress

Some advice about turrets: for anyone new to the game, the regular turrets are more of a support role then decent defense. They’re there to soak up damage for your colonists, so they’re good as a front line emplacement or in the case of killboxes, the first thing the enemies can attack

Turrets like the auto cannon and uranium slug turrets are much better, but they’re likely to kill your colonists if you don’t place them correctly. These are back line turrets, so try not to have your colonists in between these turrets and the enemy.

Modded turrets can get kinda surprising, but they can be quite good. Sniper turrets alongside uranium slug turrets can be quite devastating, for example. Then you have glittertech and some other mods that add humongous turrets that can mulch through enemies like nothing. If you want a base that does the fighting for you, mods are the way to go

My first base is chilling In a save folder purgatory because 20 centipedes are camped outside my base and nothing can stop them

The turret switch is so obvious yet ive never done it to save power. In dumb lol definitely gona use that. Good video helped me learn kill boxes

If you use a chunk at the end of the tunnel It can force enemies into the kill room so they don't have cover. But it must be at a 90° angle from the killroom

I don't like cheesing the game. I just make a firing line behind cover and call it a day. If I'm playing medieval I just make a wall and use normal siege defense tactics.

I like trying to incorporate defenses into designs, like dressing up a killbox as some entrance hall or yard. Melee chokepoints can be invisible if they're just a 3x3 space that happens to be in front of a door.

Only problem with a switch is I will forget it exists and then wonder why my turrets wont fire lol.

vanilla players could never comprehend a game where they dont have to cheese every raid

I find walling the largest area you can, open enterances on all 4 corners with the trap enterences, plus a fallback base in the center with the same trap design for when they launch pods in works great. Keep in mind the center area should be used for nothing so if they launch inside they get stuck in the traps on the way out and vice versa. If you're using stuff inside you'll have people inside and out and it gets more complicated. I did this and only ever had to go out to fight defoliator ships

I think my favorite base design is the "burn box" where you make a windy corridor filled with womething to slow down raiders, and at one area you have some sandbags to have a colonist ignite with a molotov. Which just makes the whole room REALLY HOT

I can’t be the only one who doesn’t like killboxes right? It’s just not interesting.

Am I the only one who had raiders making a fortified position with motars in vanilla

I know this is old, but the 2 blocks corridor with the next setup: trap, nothing, then nothing, fence, and repeat, is way more efficient material wise and is easier to rebuild

Wish you could put shorts in a playlist, this would go in a helpful one

What mod is making the textures like that

I usually have such a long corridor with traps that even raids with 150 people can't get through... But then I have to use quick doors, plus I place 2 traps next to each other; the space in between the traps is just a waste. 😅 Behind that, there is usually a kill box, just in case something does get through. 😂
