This video is absolutely insane, not only did you beautifully compare the show to the book side by side, you credited the artists for art used, you even pointed out how scenes were directed and produced in the show and how the scenes where made, AND you even pointed out little facts from the actors themselves in certain scenes! WOW

I still found it extremely stupid in the show, that Criston was allowed to remain at court after mercilessly killing one of the groom's retinue? Even with Alicent's intervention, it still doesn't make sense.

Bro I always felt bad for the random guard who was killed by Daemon to stage Laenor's death.

Just watched all 4 hours. Man I’m ready for season 2 but also I just purchased Fire and Blood ( I know I know) and I’m excited to read it.

There isn’t a single example of something “too dark” for the tv show in this whole video

I simply hate, hate Otto. If Daemon was as bad as his reputation he would have had Otto killed when Otto first started making trouble for him. He also should have had Alicent fall out a window .

This is a great video. I was glued to the screen for 4 hours, even though I read the book and watched the show multiple times. I like how unbiased you are towards either party.

I don’t agree with Alicent demanding „an eye for an eye“, but I still feel for her. Watching her breakdown and attack the Blacks after Aemond got injured always makes me cry. „Where is sacrifice, where is duty?“ Ahh, I just absolutely love this show. 💕 Can’t wait for the new season.

One correction that’s super important to the development of Daemon and Rhaenyra’s relationship is that when they do finally get together on the beach in the shack, it is NOT a beautiful moment. She is shown as coming off feeling ambivalent about it. It’s not special, it’s her being strategic, and the event itself reads as very blah to her. It is very importantly coded as not the fulfillment of her desires (which is how it’s staged when she was young, which fuels her whole forays with Cole and Strong and throws so much of the plot into motion.) But now it’s just blah “yep it’s a guy, and he’s doing his thing, and he doesn’t seem to even notice I’m not actually all that into it now that we’ve started.”

It strongly parallels Alicent earlier spending the night with Viserys while Rhaenyra and Daemon were at the brothel. Now it’s Rhaenyra’s turn to choose duty. That’s literally the whole point of her telling Daemon that Laenor wasn’t working out. She stopped choosing to put her desires first so she could put duty first instead. Daemon, once she has him, immediately proves to not be the perfect combo of duty and desire like she dreamed it might be when she was young. Now, instead of Daemon luring her into a position that strips her of power while teasing pleasure, she’s taking the weight of the throne into her own hands but turning Daemon into a tool of duty.

She took the power he held over her finally, at least she made a start of it, and made her “pleasure” about her choices and wielding her power and influence (which is what she wanted the whole time!) instead of Daemon influencing her to believe she could only be happy through affairs. She started thinking like a Queen.

She faced the terrors of childbirth and realized death wears many, many faces, and being strategic is how you deal with it, not by running away. Daemon gets this same message by being criticized about poor Laena giving birth away from the maesters of her family. He ran away and he gained some ground while also losing. He’s also criticized for “running away” from the Step Stones even that that wasn’t his fault but it’s the theme with his character. He runs, he gives up power, but he makes it look like what he wants to do as a consolation prize. He taught Rhaenyra to do the same. She finally stopped but realized he wouldn’t, but she could use that. So she did. And what she got wasn’t really what she wanted because in the end he was just a man like any other and in that moment he was content to run away to old memories rather than actually tune in to what was happening with her in the present moment. He couldn’t even tell the difference in her between when she genuinely wanted him in the brothel and when she approached him on the beach.

He was a man not content to live in the present moment. But he could be useful to her present moment if she had the bravery to live in it. So she did. And she saw the truth. And she swallowed the bitter pill.

So it’s a seemingly small difference in how you read it visually but it has major significance in the way the show uses that scene.

You mentioned that all of King Jaehaerys' sons are all dead - that is just in the HBO show. In the books, he has one surviving son (Vaegon aka "Vinegar Vaegon" who is a maester at the Citadel. He is involved in the Great Council but isn't considered a suitable candidate.

This has to be the biggest WASTE of time video I've watched. Absolutely nothing in here is relating to the title "Too Dark". He said rambles on and yaps about the show and then says "this wasn't in the books". That's it, he doesn't bring up anything that might have been too dark in the books to put into the episodes.
