Can I just say that this is the correct amount of excitement for this. Any less would be injustice to how cool it is :)

That's similar in principle to the bariatric slider that EMTs use to move patients from a bed to a stretcher. Neat!

Nate do you have Steve Moulds number to call, because this feels like a Steve Mould phone call moment lol

I think you can go backwards too if you have an extra hand to pull the paper back from the bottom. Put the stain back down.

My guess would be the silicone coating on the parchment paper has a higher friction coefficient than your counter.

That's crazy!
Looking forward to the video where you explain why it works and of course, testing out other things to see if they work too

I think it's got to be something to do with the smoother surface of the parchment paper. Also the flatter the tool you use to scrape the better it works.

There was a product back in the 90s that did exactly this. It was on one of those "call now to buy" ads with the blue background and 4 easy payments, although I don't think this particular product required multiple payments. Anyways, it was basically magic seeing it pick up any messy glob and then putting it down somewhere else. It was a pretty cool novelty, but as you showed, they were dirt simple to make on your own.

probably due to the difference in the friction coefficient of the paper and the table + the viscosity change property of non-Newtonian mixtures, when the paper is scratched on the table(removal of matter through friction), the paper steals the ketchup and other sauces due to this principle, like when you rub pencil on paper and the graphite stays on the paper.

It works because your picking up non newtonian fluids that have a higher surface tension than traditional liquids. Because of this, they actually begin to travel on the new introduced plain (the parchment paper) due to their ability to "grab" the new plain because of the higher surface tension, and because of the wax allowing for slightly more grip on the paper.

That is a very cool finding 👌🏼 no special materials since most homes would likely have the required materials already handy.
I just had to try this for myself with a ton of condiments and sauces and it works for the most part which is just nifty. Some take out sauces leaves a tiny residue like mustardy or mustard like (ie: sauces with mustard etc) ones but for what this is, it has amazing results imo.
Def going to be part of my cleaning repertoire fersher
Thnx Nate! 👍🏼

I haven't thought of actual applications yet but this could so revolutionize some things in crafting! *Slots fact in back of brain for future reference*

There's a kitchen tool i bought years ago called 'The Superpeel' - works on the same principle, you can use it to put sticky pizza dough in the oven 😊

This rivals the janitors magic vomit stuff

Dang even Nate knows the prototype 😂 the dropshippers are cooked

It works because the cohesion and adhesion to the wax paper of those fluids are stronger than their adhesion to the table surface.

Where was this when I was in school! This could’ve saved a could assignments. 😮

Thanks for the great experiment! Wonder if Jazza Art will make a painting using this method for fun?

It's just adsorption. It helps if the liquid is cohesive (viscous and sticking to itself) and the liquid should adhere to the parchment. It wouldn't work as well if the parchment was substituted with teflon sheet (non stick). Cool demo though.

Never learned this. Logically thinking, if you grab something, you are picking it up, in this scale, it’s atomically smaller, the paper grabbing the semi-liquid off the smooth surface one particle at a time while using something flat like a cardboard box to stabilize the paper to allow it to pick up (riding under it, sauce going on-top) the semi-liquids. My best thought.
