We are so broke that we didn’t have a tree or presents. We DID have a fantastic family meal with my mom the evening of Christmas. That’s what was most important to me. I almost lost my son at the end of July when all of his organs shut down and he was put on life support. God saved his life and in less than 6 months, he is about completely recovered!! All I need is my Lord, husband, children and mom.
Prayers for a wonderful upcoming year to y’all! 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

I used to always pay my shopping with a £ notes (Scotland here) and every piece of change I got I threw into the bottom of my handbag and not back in my wallet. End of each week, I cleaned out the bag and put it into a container, some weeks it would be £3 or £5, sometimes it was just change but it never went back into the wallet. Its amazing how much it mounted up. Thanks for all the tips.

I have an idea for your penny saved challenge. Most of us know when we have a month that will be easier, on those months choose a different coin. Save dimes one month, nickels one month, and on the month you feel really rich try quarters. Then in the really struggling month do the pennies.

We just completed our saving challenge this week. Husband and I started the 52 week challenge where you put 50$ a week in an envy. Now we have the money to go on family vaca and not be stressed.
I am starting the 52 bag challenge in January ....52 grocery bags of stuff coming up out of this cluttered house!!!!

Roll a pair of dice, then put that amount of money in your savings envelope. Never more than $12.00 but never the same amount keeping it interesting

My brother in law saved all his $1 for almost six months and to teach his grandson the fun of giving and helping others they saved $550 they took envelopes and counted out 10 $1 and handed it out to the homeless at Christmas and his grandson which is 8 years old he was ready to go get his bank and keep on giving 😊😊😊

So 2 savings ideas: At the bottom of your receipts the stores tell you how much you've saved, so take it from the bank and save it. Problem with 52 weeks, is having to save $45 you may not have. Instead add the numbers. 5+2 and fill an envelope, 4+9 and save that amount. Thanks for the ideas Brooke. Have a Happy New Year! 😊❤🎉🎉🎉

Brooke, here is a suggestion that my father did every year I was growing up. Every night he would empty his pocket of loose change, Thanksgiving weekend my two sister and I put the coins in coin wrappers and it was divided between us to buy Christmas presents. He would also put in folding money from time to time. Every year there was a minimum of a thousand dollars!

In Australia we have $1 and $2 coins. I saw someone saying they saved $2 coins in a Pringles container and ended up with $1320. I decided to try it for myself. Well it turns out Pringles containers have suffered shrinkflation. I managed to save $1040. I have begun refilling the container and currently have $50. There is no set amount to add each week and no time frame for saving. I was able to pay my car registration without hitting my savings and had money left over to spend on a treat for myself and my adult kids.

Meal games: salad bar night, soup night, vegetarian night, breakfast for dinner night (could be pancakes), and leftover surprise night --- ways to stretch grocery shopping trips ❤

I'm loving all of this! My son is 14 and his foot grows ever few months. He's currently a size 13 and just said his shoes are getting tight. We've has a cash envelope going for years for shoes. $20 a month adds up. We're a family of 4 and mu husband is active duty Army so he needs new shoes regularly. It's so helpful knowing we have that envelope when someone needs shoes.

My aunt grew up during the Great Depression. She said, she and her husband saved a dime for every dollar they earned. This was for their retirement or anything that was unexpected. Believe it or not, they had enough to take a trip in the 70’s to Hawaii. They also had enough to retire on and buy a new car.

I tried the envelope system years ago and failed quickly keeping a box in a drawer and just putting in a few dollars that you can forget about is a good idea. I have a suggestion for you that I myself am trying for groceries if you go to the store say on Mondays the next week wait until at least Tuesday and by adding just one day you will end up at the store less even if it’s just 40 times in the year instead of 52 you will save more by making what you have stretch Happy new year!

I’m very close to retirement and I’m gonna be in trouble financially when that happens. Not ready at all. I am blessed enough to not be broke all the time. But I’m also not set for life. So I got off my butt and paid everything off. It was silly to pay all that interest instead of just paying the dang thing off. So it’s done. And I’m now keeping all those monthly payments going, but I’m sticking that money in a savings account so I have something set aside. Better late than never. It feels much better to pay myself than to pay some company. But some of your ideas were great. Definitely going to try them and see how I get on. The more I can save the better off I’ll be. Thanks

One thing i heard on the $52 week challenge is if you get a week where its a bigger amount you cant afford you can trade that week for a smaller amount. It doesnt have to go in order. If you find some you cant do just keep going . some savings is better than no savings.

If you have Menards in your area- I save my rebates all year for Christmas shopping or something I really need. This year I am buying new grow lights for starting my garden plants.
