It's important to use sesame oil, adds proper flavor and changes other flavors to make dish editable

For the sauce to be added, the combination of "sesame oil + soy sauce" is the best, or if there is no sesame oil, the combination of "butter + soy sauce" is recommended.

NO you did the rice right. You always add your rice to the water and bring it to a boil then then turn down to a slight simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. If you wash the rice it will be less likely to stick together, but if you are using short grain rice to make sushi you do not rice because you want it to be sticky. If you want a really fragrant and different tasting rice may I suggest Jasmine. It is a very flavorful rice from the middle east and I usually ass just a pat of butter when serving. Another trick to any rice is to instead of water you can use stock of any kind OR after adding the water add a couple of teaspoons of you favorite flavor of bullion and that really will go good with different meats and vegetables. Standard rice takes that long to cook, the westernised "quick-cook" rice is basically pre-cooked rice that's been dried out and just gets rehydrated & heated, making it more convenient for us lazy western types... :P

The grossest thing I ever heard coming out of South Korea was from a Soldier that was stationed there. He said they would take a chicken egg with the chick still in it, cook it and eat it out of the egg. I want to know who the crazy SOB was that thought that up back in the day! Very cool Nathan. Different is always cool. I know, plain rice, needs seasoning, like yourself, that is A lot of additions? All of the flavoring, and still had to season, with salt and pepper. Surprising. Tabasco maybe? I am glad, you all had A good meal. I hope all are safe. Peace from Ky., John.

Looked really interesting.
Shame you didn't have sesame oil, as I think that would have made it taste better and made it less stodgy.
Its your food, put whatever you want in it lol
