Competitor tries to fake a big air intake

Everyone wants an air intake that will flow more air into the engine to increase horsepower or improve fuel economy. One of our competitors boasted a huge intake tube however, the inside of the tube told a different story. We knew we had to respond. The Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor in the intake tube sends the engine a mass airflow reading that only works when the sensor is in a tube that has a specific cross-sectional area. In other words, if you install a large diameter tube without addressing the MAF sensor, the readings will be so far out of spec that it will result in a check engine light. Our competitor's solution was to eliminate all of the airflow gains they would have achieved from their big tube. They used an insert that restricts the mass airflow to stock performance in order to avoid a check engine light.

For our Ram-Air intake system, we wanted a huge free-flowing tube and no check engine lights. How did we manage it? Our patented electronic Air Mass Control Module recalibrates the stock sensor's MAF readings to accurately report the mass flow to the truck's ECM. This allowed to increase the tube size without limits.

I trust companies the most when I feel like I know the CEO.
Bravo, Mr. Banks.

Dude clearly understands basic fluid mechanics. That's why he Gale Banks. Don't mess around. 😆

A man who knows his stuff. If you do a speed density tune you can also work around the MAF problem.

That fake intake is a prime example of a mechanical engineer "solution" to an electrical engineering problem 😂.

I'll continue to say it, this dude, is Tony stark when it comes to engineering. Everyone else is Justin Hammer.

This is true normally you would have to adjust the MAF scaling factor in the ECU

I have had so much trouble trying to get people to understand this exact point.

This man needs to

1. Write a book

2. Document all his knowledge

3. Mentor someone truly worthy of his knowledge.

4. Make a docuseries. From now till his passing on all things engines.

Out of all the people in the world and I had the choice who I could spend a whole day with it would be this man. No bull, straight to the point fountain of knowledge to make all the horses!

I came across this problem when I first started doing custom hard pipes and cold feed intakes, I came up with a similar idea for vehicles where maf was not removable, took a while to work out the resistance scale of the maf sensor to know what adjustments where needed to the signal! It was an Interesting project and took far more research and testing than I first imagined! Nice to see I wasn’t to far off the correct path! Great video as always!

I love when Gale goes Mr Subaru and calls out the competition. And then gives us an education.
