Brian Cox Explains The True Size Of The Universe

Показать описание
In 1823, German astronomer Heinrich Olbers proposed the idea of a static universe. He suggested if the Universe is infinite and filled with stars all at different distances from Earth, then every single sight line should land on a star. This means that if the universe is infinite and contains an infinite number of bright objects, the night sky will be bright! Since the night sky is dark, this tells us that one of our assumptions about the universe is incorrect.

And in the grand scale of time it's like we were never here...

But where is the Universe?

It’s got to be floating within something like a room, a void, a space. I understand the immense size but where is it ?

One can’t simply say here’s this thing we call the Universe it’s billions of miles in size, ok, but in comparison to what where is the Universe what’s holding it up?

We are actually closer in size to the observable universe than we are to the Planck lenght

We don't know the size of the universe and we won't for a very long time if we ever do we just know how far we can see so far

So if we’re able to see the light because it has travelled from where it was emitted to where we are, how is this looking back in time?
I mean we’re not actually seeing the object where the light emitted from, we are only seeing the light it emitted. And like I mentioned, we’re seeing it because it has travelled all the way to us - so we see the light as it is in present time.
How is this looking back in time??? Am I missing or misunderstanding something here?

The universe is expanding …ok… but what is it expanding in? To separate space from “the universe” is the hang up.
