I mistakenly filled a diesel with gasoline in a rental hyundai in France. Rented in Paris and filled the tank in Normandy. The thing got over 70 mpg on diesel. I got it started and it stuttered and knocked and blew thick white smoke for what seemed 1000km all over France - I never a shut it off because I was scared it wouldn’t start again. I finally ran it about empty near Bordeaux and filled it full of diesel and it ran fine after that.

I put 5 gallons of petrol in my diesel Renault Master, fuel gauge was showing red, so was quite empty. I didn't realise and drove about 4 miles before it started to run bad and knock. I realised what i had done, as soon as it started to run bad, but couldn't pull over for about another mile. Got towed home, pumped the tank out, put two gallons of diesel in, pumped that out, drained high pressure pump, filled tank with diesel, primed, drained pump again, primed again and started it. By some miracle, it was fine and runs as good as ever. I won't do that again, but it proves it may not always be terminal.

My wife put gas in my truck when I first got it. Thank GOD it shut down after a mile. It immediately went to a dealership and cost about $1, 000 to purge the gas. Luckily it didn’t cause harm bc that was 4 years ago and she runs like a CHAMP.

I work at a gas station and a guy just put gas in his diesel Mercedes van. I think he turned off the engine in time but if he ever comes back and tells me what happened I'll be sure to update y'all

In my 2020 1.8 diesel I put 7.5 litre of petrol. In panic I filled to the brim with diesel, drove the car, mpg increased, Miles before refill increased. No I'll effects, I won't purposely do it again but it didn't destroy my car

My brother-in-law put in a couple gallons gas into my 1995 Ram cummins and it had about 25 gallons of fuel. He was going to top it off after borrowing, but stopped when he realized he put gas in it. He drove it to my house and I drove it around and then topped it off. I didn't notice any problems.

Here where I live in the uk diesel pumps at the fuel station are usually black not green, green is for unleaded fuel/petrol. Unless other countries do it the other way around, no wonder the wrong fuel gets put in.

In all likelihood a diesel owner won't screw this up, a gas car owner will. It will tend to cause more damage to a diesel

I just accidentally put e10 (about 15 gallons) into my diesel (had about 3-4 gallons of diesel in it). It ran fine for about 4 miles then I stopped to turn around to do a different way and the tank sloshed around and immediately it started not being able to accelerate as usual.. i felt hold back at around 40 mph, thought it may have been the transmission trying to find gear since that is common w my van (mercedes engine) but then it started to get worse, stopped again turned around, started driving slow, it was knocking above 20 mph, but was driving fairly smooth under.. drove back yo the gas station to have them pull receipt and yep, accidentally put e10 in it… 🤦🏻‍♀️… I heard some knocking and it didnt sound great above 20 mph, but keeping it slow it was fine. Parked and had it towed to the shop… hoping they can bleed it and change the fuel filter and maybe the worst case fuel injectors and that I did not mess the engine up. Send good vibes… lmk what you think!

I am to a petrol station and I will keep trying till someone teaches me so please can somebody help me…?!
How can anyone put gas into a diesel tank??

Sorry my bad.
Let me rephrase my question.

How can anyone be able to put gas in a opened container/tank and having it inside with the lid open and still the gas doesn’t evaporate??
Either I’ve missed the lesson of chemistry the day I skipped school or i am the most and only dumb person in the whole wide world.
PS: only a wise american person can explain how to put gas in a diesel or even petrol tank and doesn’t evaporate?! I don’t give a F#*k about what happens to the engine anymore. I just wanna fill up my tank with gas God damn it😢
