Fun fact: Syrio balancing the sword on his hand was improvised by the actor, and even he was surprised that he pulled it off.

I know it was season 1 but to this day Syrio Forel is one of my favorite characters from the series.

Ned's scene in this strikes me more as a flashback or PTSD to a man who has seen many bloody battles and expects more to come soon.

This scene alone is better than Season 8

I love the little moment at 3:16 : Syrio has grabbed Arya easily, but she manages to spin and swings her sword at his side. Syrio blocks it, of course, but he glimpses at thw swords crossing, as if he was recognising that Arya has good instincts and a real talent for this

This is how the legend of Arya Montoya began

I always loved how she smiled after he caught the sword at 0:39. She had found someone to teach her skills in her passion, which is sword play.

The fact that Syrio teaches Arya and not some Westeros master-at-arms means that Ned purposely chose a fighting style that would fit her the best.

I love the directing. How we hear the clashing of wood when Ned shows up only for it to transition to steel. Then we see the Syrio's blade become steel in a few moments, and it ends with him stabbing Arya with a Steel sword. You can't tell if Ned is reliving Robert's Rebellion or foreseeing the future conflict.

What stood out to me was when her father walks in and smiles 3:12 about the fact that she is learning to fight and enjoys it, but at 3:15 his smile turns to sadness that she is learning because he realizes that someday she will be fight with those skill and possibly die.

one of the smaller things i noticed in this scene is that the first time he throws the sword to arya, he throws it towards her right hand and after she drops it, he pauses for a second. im pretty sure he realized she couldnt really be at fault for that because she isnt right handed, and then he says that she would catch it the next time. the next time he throws the sword to her, he throws it towards her left and is thrilled wen she caught it. its nice to see that he didnt try to force her to use her right hand, i think fighting lefty gives her an advantage since so many people would be used to fighting other right handed fighters

One of the scenes that made me love this show... oh how the quality has dropped since they overran the books

I guess Ned was remembering Robert's Rebellion at the end of the video, or maybe the fight at the Tower of Joy.
