Noise: from filling our lives with things to do and people to meet, from filling our silence and solitude with earbuds in and phones out, from wanting to know what the future will look like and hoping to guide our every step in the right direction. Noise fills our lives. Quiet: the times in our lives when we are waiting, when God doesn’t clearly show us what to do, when we want to lean on our own understandings and be our own light to our paths. Removing the noise we fill our lives with and praising God in the quiet is His invitation. I stand in a season of so much uncertainty and worry. With graduation coming up, the uncertainty of where I will be in the coming few months and even in the following 2 years leaves me fearful. I want to be in control. I want to know with certainty what the right thing to do is. “C”AP’s theme of Emptying embodies this new mentality I’m trying to embrace. Emptying to me is submission and humility. It's letting go and letting God. Instead of feeling the need to schedule my days minute-by-minute and second guessing every step, I am inviting God to fill my life. And even in those moments when I can’t feel God or see what his plans are for me, I’ll praise Him. God, you’re here in the silence. So I’ll just be quiet. This dance is a story: my story of wanting to give everything to God yet my impatience and desire to fill the silence. This dance is a journey about surrender. It’s a difficult journey, and it’ll continue to be so. But, I’m not in this journey alone.
