Second victim dies after Denny's sign crushes car in Elizabethtown

Family said Lloyd Eugene Curtis Sr. died early Monday morning. His wife, Lillian, was also killed last week in the incident.

Imagine having to live to a ripe old age of 72 and getting out of the hospital only to die this way! So sorry this happened. My thoughts and condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

It has been reported that the sign was missing bolts and was rusted. That's not a "freak accident", that's the result of negligence. Are there no inspections done on these signs, especially where high winds are common?

Who ever put that sign up screwed up I see the plate on the pole and sign is still there so it was not bolted down well or they used cheap hardware grade two bolts do not cut it with the wind loading of a sign that size ! I’m in the metal fab biz I only use the best stuff I can get when dealing with any thing that is subject to stress like that have seen stuff done that is just flat scary !
