I have always heard people say "cut up the card" but if you are going to spend money why not get cash back or rewards on that? The key is to spend exactly what you would spend in cash.

Great video. Once Capital one offered me 4% ON EVERYTHING for 3 months - I was so happy.

I REALLY need to make one. Also didn’t realize how good the Uber and Discover IT Cards were. Thanks again.

I use to work at Sears in college and must admit I helped sign people up for the card. I thought it was a good card back then and it still is. I also get the targeted offers. Just earned a little under $200 for this last quarter. I can’t figure out how they still do this. I have 2 little ones and it wasn’t hard for me to hit minimum spends on basics for them. I run a very similar setup of cards. If I’m not trying to meet an intro bonus spend, getting 5% or buying a gift card to get 5% I get bummed out lol. I have no debt and I’m very frugal. Credit cards are just a tool. Keep up the good work with your channel!

So I’m 20 with 10 credit cards and have never paid interest, so I think I’m doing pretty well. I did get Barclay uber card end of November last year and what sucks is they updated the policy so new member from sometime last year on can’t redeem reward as cash. You can only redeem it for uber services like a ride, uber eat or jump bike.

Yes, , I have the Sears Mastercard with the great 10-20% cash back offers on gas, groceries, and restaurants. I'm also astonished that you can sometimes get double rewards on the same purchases from two different offers. It's interesting that I rarely seem to have the same offers at the same time as you do. For example, I currently (January through March) have a 20% back offer for $500+ in purchases whereas you said that you don't have any offers right nnow. I don't know how they can even afford to offer these incentives, but I hope they keep doing it for a while longer!

People from credit card companies must be scrambling on how to counter Btb's saving strategies.

The little cheat sheet card is a great idea! I used to have a sears card but closed it out several years ago when I was paying down credit card debt.

So wait... if your card gives you 3% back on grocery store purchases... you buy gift cards from there and they see it as a grocery store purchase?

I feel like its to much work sometimes to go back and forth on all the cards and have all these log ins and passwords i did it for a while but i feel like just using one good card or 2 and keeping it simple is better

indeed, w/o the cheat sheet it is impossible to remember cash back categories which are constantly changing. They knew most people couldn't keep up with all the changes.

That cheat sheet is a smart idea. Taking 30 seconds to look at it before purchase will save hundreds in cash back.

Curious how much capital do you have locked up in gift cards? Does it take a while to use up or do you end up re-selling them? Have you calculated the opportunity cost of lost interest of having invested the cash instead? Although the ROI from the cash back is much higher I’m sure, assuming you don’t hold the gift cards for years at a time

Having more than 2 or 3 credit cards is generally a bad idea. If you open too many credit cards, especially "store cards", it can hurt your credit score. A bad credit score can impact you in bad ways, like increased insurance rates. You also have to use the credit cards about twice a year to keep the cards active. You also have to be aware of any fees that the credit card may charge you even if you pay off the balance every month.

For someone that is extremely frugal, not buying toilet paper, you seem to spend a lot of money on restaurants. Spending almost $600 in three months is almost $200 a month eating at restaurants.

There is an app called CardPointers that basically does what you do but yours is neat!

What I did for the Chase Freedom's 5% back on Internet/Cable/Phone Services is to prepay my internet and phone bill with a certain amount instead of changing the credit card numbers. For example, I prepaid $300 to RCN and another $225 to T-Mobile (I only do this because I have the funds to pay that back in full when the statement closes). That's a good way to max out the category.
