Volkswagen Air Cooled Mini Stroker Build -1760cc- Part 1

Today's video we are explaining the start of the new engine build for Jawbreaker the 1973 VW Beetle!
This is a mini stroker build by taking a 1641cc engine and replacing the stock 69mm crank and installing a 74mm crank. We are mostly using used, but in spec parts for this engine build to help keep costs down.
This build would be good for a type1 beetle, type 2 bus and a type 3 square back or fast back.

Been running a cast crank in a spare parts 1776 for over a decade with a stock cam and 34 pict 3 with oil bath air cleaner. 4:37 RP makes it a hot rod in town but not my first choice for long distance abuse. Always tempted to put 1:25 ratio rockers and dual carbs but it's the one car that I know will always fire up and get me there. She also runs a dog house and alternator. 😊😊😊

That sounds like an awesome plan, Gary!! “Sweep the floor” engines are the most fun, as you spend little to no money in the fun of it…I’ve got another short block I plan to do as a backup motor in a similar way. On the clearancing with stock rods and 74mm crank, pay close attention to where the back of the connecting rod comes close to the spigots - the contacting of the two are not always so obvious during mock-up and rotation….just went through this this week and had to go back and fix some minor rubbing in two places. Good luck, it’ll be fun!

An offset stroked stock 74mm cast crank without counterweights. Interest peaked. I remember being young, broke, and needing to keep my beetle on the road. Many a used part was recycled.
Looking forward to this build, I bet it will be awesome.
