The Mayans lived in the southeastern region of Mesoamerica, primarily in what is now modern-day Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador. The heartland of the Maya civilization was the Yucatán Peninsula, which includes present-day areas of Mexico such as the Mexican states of Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and Campeche. The ancient Maya civilization thrived from around 2000 BC to about 1500 AD, with its peak during the Classic Period from about 250 AD to 900 AD. The Maya civilization was known for its advanced architecture, mathematics, astronomy, hieroglyphic writing, and complex city-states.

0:30 First time hear, that Maya came from Africa. Something went wrong... As far as I know Maya are native people in South America (territory of modern Mexico, Guatemala, Salvador, Honduras).
In any case, thank you for this educational video.

“Docu” made for US Americans with little to no knowledge about geography.
Mayan’s lived on the Yukatan peninsula, today Mexico.
And the Aztec were in fact the chocolate crazed (origin of the word chocolate = Xocolatl) - when the Spaniards came to todays Mexico and brought chocolate and so many other fruits and vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, paprika, etc.) to the old world.
Only in 1876 the chocolate tree was introduced successfully into Africa, that is 380 years after it was first discovered in the Americas by the Spaniards.

I honestly thought this was a joke video at first. The Mayans didn't live in Africa. They were a Central American culture. And caco beans came from the Amazon Rainforest in South America. A quick google search shows they were first domesticated around 5, 300 years ago before being introduced in Central America by the Olmecs around 4, 000 years ago. The Maya did use it but they had nothing to do with it being grown in Africa. It was much later that the Spanyards took it to Africa where much of the crop is grown today.

The fact that those put in so much effort and time for the beans is so impressive, wish people recognise their work more

0:30 WRONG "Our journey starts all the way in "LATIN AMERICA not Africa, where cacao trees grow wild. The first people to use chocolate were probably the Olmec of what is today southeast Mexico.

Seeing this as a Ghanaian brings a lot of childhood memories with my late grandad who passed on some years back. I used to visit the cocoa farm with him in the village on the weekend on 5 miles walking distance

Concidering this video says that the mayans are African, I don't think I can trust anything said in this upload 😂 even my 8 year old niece knows the mayans aren't from Africa

How intelligent were these men who came up with the idea of making delicious chocolate, passing cacao all through these processes…How did they know?

Amazing. I'll never look at cocoa powder the same again while baking. And say a little thank you to the harvesters hard work.

Chocolate’s origins are in Latin America, not Africa. Cacao came to Africa from Brazil in 1822. Mayans lived several countries in Central America, Guatemala was home to many Mayans throughout the years. Two different geographical locations. Hopefully you can update your video to be correct.

Excuse me? The Mayans lived in Africa? And these African Mayans - who seem to have teleported there from South America - discovered the secrets of the cacao tree? Those ancient Mayans also look suspiciously like modern-day Ghanaians. And then, at around 2.23 into the video, the African Ghanaians turn into Costa Ricans. Thankfully, the rest of the video appears to be relatively accurate. But really, getting the geography and history so completely wrong is nothing but laziness.
